Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

There were multiple holds on a lot of plays.. Feel like Butch told the ref right before halftime and wouldn't comment on it with the interviewer.. Needless to say Butch will be sending a lot of video to the SEC for review this week.

My question is why didn't we start holding if they were obviously not gonna call it.

I was in the corner that the team came out. Before coming onto the field before the second half, Butch had a conversation with two of the officials. It wasn't overly intense, but I don't think he was asking about their families either.

After rewatching the game, the DY situation is the first time my absolute faith in Butch Jones has been shaken. Still not there on Bajakian, although I truly think he's a huge part of the problem, but repeatedly letting DY ruin field position is just a bad coaching decision.

I am hoping that he was just waiting until the off week to make the change. It needs to happen now! Put one of our talented FR back there ASAP!

My faith in Coach Jones hasn't been shaken but I do agree that someone else needs to be returning kicks because DY isn't getting it done. What about Wharton? Wasn't that his strength in HS? Maybe try him and see how he does. Or even one of the Berry's.

There are only a handful of players in CFB where if they want to bring the ball out 7 yards deep on a kickoff, you let them because they are that good.

Devrin Young is not one of those guys.

Berry and Wharton are in the 2 deep. If you don't trust them yet, threaten DY with his life if he runs it out and take a knee every single time. Almost 100 yards left on the field by DY in the past 2 games. I don't care if I'm not a coach, I can say with certainty that it's bad coaching to let DY keep doing what he does.

Apparently the story is he fumbled one and turned it over during a fall practice scrimmage. Since then they have kept DY in.

I understand fully. Maybe Butch will make adjustments during the bye week but a change does need to be made.

We literally have multiple guys who would be better than DY. I appreciate DY giving his all for Tennessee and being a VFL, but we have better options.j

Josh Malone, Vic Wharton, Ryan Jenkins, Emmanuel Moseley, Josh Smith, Von Pearson, Evan Berry, and others.

At least we have other options. Out of the ones mentioned in an above post, who would be the absolute best option in your opinion? Wharton would get my vote even though he did fumble in practice.

Berry is probably the fastest player on the team, and at 200lb,he's not going to be brought down easily or easily shaken.

But I'd settle for taking a knee every time for now.

That's better than fumbling it and giving the opponent great field position.
