Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

Both LT's this year have been just bodies... I also agree with the consensus on Mack, he hasn't been good. I hope the changes (or rumored) help this week

Huh? Lol. I've hardly ever listened to finebaum and likely never will. What happened?

Lol ah my bad. Some guy named Daniel from Jackson TN called. Was actually reasonable & had realistic expectations so I thought it might been you from listening to the podcasts.

Didn't think you were from TN though so I didn't know for sure.

I'm in NC. Now I wish I had claimed it was me... Jk.

I've only listened to him a few times on long drives but didn't love it.

What'd finebaum say to the lad

I don't think we take another O-Line.
As of right now we have

Chance Hall
Dylan Jackson
Jack Jones
Venzell Boulware
Zach Stewart

It's actually not that bad if you give it a chance. I used to hate the guy but like this show. It's good for a laugh or seven if nothing else, especially whenever Charles from Alabama calls in.

He agreed with the caller and said an "overwhelming majority" of Tennessee fans are very realistic but when some of the crazy ones call in, they have to have a little fun with it.

As of right now we have

Chance Hall - Injured
Dylan Jackson - Currently Defense (learning curve if he moves)
Jack Jones - Future Left Tackle
Venzell Boulware - Guard
Zach Stewart - Guard

With only one true tackle committed we should take at the very least one more OT but probably 2.

I just rewatched the first half of the ASU game specifically focusing on the offense live. Here are some general thoughts on each player.

Kyler Kerbyson is our best and most consistent lineman.

Jashon Robertson may be our best lineman by the end of the year. He's still making some mental mistakes, but he probably has more "explosive" blocks than anyone. By my count, graded out as well as anyone but Kerbyson.

On the flip side, Mack Crowder is getting driven into the backfield with regularity. He's really struggling.

As bad as Crowder was, Brett Kendrick played far worse. He was by far our worst in pass protection and barely ahead of Crowder in the run game.

Marcus Jackson struggled, but wasn't nearly as bad as Crowder or Kendrick. He got driven into the backfield too much as well.

One more blocking note. Ethan Wolf really hurt us when he was a lead blocker early in the game. When he was on the backside he did okay, but when we ran towards him he cost us some yards on a few plays.

LOL - this is a very poor and untrue post. You should recheck your film viewing capabilities. Sometimes defensive linemen are turned away from a play and done so with intent. It is part of zone blocking which doesn't allow for your 'old school' fire out and run over someone (unfortunately) . You really do not understand how our team runs the ball. Please call up Coach Jones and Coach Mahoney and explain how you are much better at this than they are so we can get it right. Otherwise, stop please because you are embarrassing yourself.

You can just put him on ignore if you like.

LOL - consensus ? by one know-it-all-I'm-a-better oline coach than our current coaches?

You should maybe believe your coaches before you listen to one or two. Are we Zone blocking? Can you explain how that works?

Did I ever say I was much better than Jones or Mahoney? I'm just pointing out what I saw. Trust me when I tell you that I know exactly what a zone blocking scheme is. I also know that when Mack Crowder is driven 4 yards in the backfield it isn't be design. If you'd like to show me on film where I'm wrong, by all means go ahead.

This thread isn't the first place it's been discussed.. He has been getting blown off the ball... But ok, his job isn't comfortable be any means...

Please say what is untrue about it?? If you are going to flip **** on someone for making a thought out post, you should probably rebutt him in kind. Responding like you did only makes you look like an idiot.

I also find it interesting that based on that post, where I did not discuss our scheme at all, you came to the conclusion that I "really do not understand how our team runs the ball." And you never bother explaining how my post was "very poor and untrue" or back it up with any evidence.

If you disagree that's fine. I'm not an expert by any means. But if you're going to rip me, at least try to back up your point.
