Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

I agree, but we need to start winning before we can complain about a lack of respect from the media, IMO.

I agree completely. I'm just tired of being talked about like we are a MAC team. We are still a talented team that shouldn't be a gimme for anyone.

The Florida hype is strange to me. I mean, look, I know that defense is nasty, and they have talent all over the field, but to just say that offense is going to work prior to the start of the season is nuts to me. Tennessee fans know better than anyone that bringing in new coordinators don't necessarily equal instant results. ESPECIALLY with a head coach who might not be very good at being a head coach.

And on top of that their OC hasn't run an offense on his own before. UT fans weren't too happy with Randy Sanders when CutCliffe left, and that's essentially what Florida is getting with Roper.

I agree with them having the biggest drop off, but in my book that is so precipitous a fall that they rank only barely ahead of Kentucky and Vandy in the East.

They lost over half their defense and those lost include all the playmakers. So look for the defense to have quite the drop off specifically sack and turnover totals.

On offense, they yet again lose over half their players and well over half their production. The only thing that returns intact is their Oline. Without that good RB and elite receiving corp last year, Mauk would have been atrocious. His numbers were pretty bad anyways when you consider that they are inflated against bad defenses in UK and us.

Mizzou wins 3-5 games dependent on injuries, luck, and schedule.

I agree that they take a step or two back because they have to. I don't know about only 3-5 wins though. They return two starting DT's, their MLB, and both safeties. The kicker is that they return a DE, who led their DLine in tackles but he didn't start. Also had 6.5 sacks. They still have talent in the defense. Can they find some playmakers on offense?

Vandy was our 11th game of the season. If your kids don't know the playbook by the 11th game, something is bad wrong.
My ex roommate is an sec line judge. He told me 2 yrs ago our coaches were having too yell at CP where too line up at.

Agreed. Especially when said new offensive coordinator had a head coach who was an offensive genius, so it's not like you can point to him as the source of Duke's offensive success.

The opposite would be Charlie strong at UF. That guy you can point to as the architect of his side of the ball, as opposed to Dan Mullen or Kirby smart who could have been the benefactors of head coaches who were excellent in their area.

I think UF surprises people this year. I think they get more respect because they had one losing season vs four straight for us

Thought so. Some years ago my grandmother worked in a shirt factory near or around Woodbury. they lived in McMinnville. I have relatives all around those parts.

Yeah I like your last girl better, but this one is not so hard on the eyes Maxwell :) Thanks! :hi:

Why do I think they win 9 or why do I think they won't 10+?

The 9 game take.

Just, to me, I experienced the stench coming off that team last year, and it smelled like players hating their coach. Again, sadly, we know that smell and its effects.

The clawfence was supposed to take over the world at TN. Ill believe the Roper hype when I see it. IMO it was all Cutcliffe at Duke. Roper is the same dufus that forgot he had a 2nd rd pick on his sideline at RB and he was the damn RB coach

Nashvegas, your "clawfense" reference just made me laugh out loud in public, but mostly because crying required more clean up.

I made that point to a couple of the resident UF people in the FF.

Response was essentially "Lol, nah. Talent bro."

It may very well be that they have too much talent to fail...but there was a lot more wrong last year than just a rash of injuries.

Long time reader, first time posting. It looks like this is where all the cool kids hang out on VN so figured I would stay over on this side and finally register and participate this year.

Go Vols!
