I really don't see this. We should see improvements at the following units: QB (moderate), RB (mild), WR (dramatic), TE (moderate), DB (moderate), and LB (mild).
Our DL should be, at worst, the same caliber as last year. Punting should be equivalent. Kicking may drop off a little bit, but we have some good legs on the roster. Our return game and kick coverage should be as good or better with the returning players we have and the host of fast freshmen. So, our special teams play should be in the same ballpark.
That only leaves our OL. It is the only position that should be noticeably worse than last years team. And it isn't as bad as it sounds. To begin with, our OL was mediocre at run-blocking last year. And while they produced NFL players, they largely underperformed. The depth is improving with the apparently solid play of several newcomers. The line also isn't as young as it is made out to be (as you well know): we have three redshirt juniors, Crowder has played in 10 games, Jackson has played in 24 games, and Kerbyson has played in 19. It isn't like we are starting 5 true freshmen, or a bunch of player who have done nothing but ride the bench. There is some experience, and a few of them are starting their 4th year in an SEC strength and conditioning program.
Our schedule is no worse than last years really. There is no reason we shouldn't expect a 6-6 season, and I think that it is not unreasonable to think that we could, with only a few decent breaks, hit a 7-5 year.
Derek mason is not going to cut it at Vandy.
Just watching their preview and he doesn't have it. And it is clear.
Oline play will be improved over last year. How is that possible you may ask? Run blocking has always been slightly better with this group than last years group The trio of Jackson, Crowder, Kerbyson always got a better push on run plays dating back to the O/W games 3 years ago. Pass blocking will be worse but our coaches will call plays to compensate for that (i.e. screens, passes in the flats, play action, etc) Also, the snap of the ball from the Center to the QB will be more accurate and have a bit more tempo allowing plays to unfold quicker. Overall tempo of the offense will be improved this year. CBJ wanted that tempo last year but couldn't get it installed. Finally, this Oline this year has more Grit and has more to Prove. 4th Quarter effort comes from Grit. This Oline will surprise some folks and from that confidence will build early in the season.
Thought I saw somewhere that Mauk struggled in Mizzou's open scrimmage the other day. The big take away was that it was against the 2nd string D. Not sure why he went up against the 2nd string.
Edit: It was an SDS article. He went 8 of 20....ouch.
I think we may end up shooting ourselves in the foot a couple times this year that might end up costing us some games. But I'm convinced we're gonna be a handful for everybody we play. No more getting blown out in my opinion. Gotta learn how to win close games.
8-4 finish with an incredibly dramatic win over Bama. Rivalry officially renewed.
Go big orange
We just aren't there yet. 2015 will be different.
OU is too good at home.

Im not saying we are the better team. Just have the feeling that we somehow pull it out. OU is very inconsistent. 16-7 vs WVU (4-8) in Norman last season. 20-17 vs TCU (4-8) in Norman. 34-19 vs Kansas (3-9). Get blown out by Texas and Baylor. But then beat Texas Tech, OKst and Alabama.
Im getting the gut feeling that they show up like the team that squeeked by those 4-8 teams.

OU is a mess right now and not focused. You never know. That's why you play. Could be closer than a lot of people think.
