Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XIII

Random question...I'm on mobile but when I try to get VN on my comp, it won't connect. I have deleted cookies, etc. Anyone else experiencing this?

Really? Anyone else having this issue?

I can't keep myself from being nervous about USU. It's not necessarily about the fact that I think they should play with us, but more about the fact that it would REALLY make it difficult to make a bowl game, which I think is imperative this year.

I had a dream 2 nights ago that was basically a play by play of the whole game. It wasn't going well and we were down a touchdown late, but I woke up before it ended. I was sweating. My muscles were sore and my whole body ached. I felt like I had played the whole game!

Yes, I am addicted to TN Football.

But, I also keep thinking about our players. How the hell are those boys from Provo going to contend with Jalen Hurd, Marlin Lane, Marquez North, Josh Malone, Von Pearson, etc.? How they gonna guard Jason Croom and Ethan Wolf, Josh Smith and Vic Wharton?? I don't think they can, unless we help them (i.e., turnovers). Ball security and I think we start 2-0.

Chuckie (like all mobile QBs) cause me hesitation, but hopefully we've added the speed and athleticism, and they are locked in enough, to contain him.

Let's take the damn ball from them a few times. Let's put the nation on notice, this ain't your 2006-2013 UT! GBO!

VN, I plead to you, help me not be nervous!

With all of the hype about Peterman lately, I decided to go back and watch him in action vs Oregon and Florida. It wasnt as bad as I remembered. Minus the turnovers, we moved the ball decently. Quite a few of his incompletions hit the receivers in the hands. I put together this video for anybody else who wants to rewatch his performances. I separated it by game and before/after injury. You could say that the first fumble was Neal's/Oline's fault and you could also say the 2nd was the Oline's fault. Or you could say they are both Peterman's fault.

Sorry for the music. I didnt feel like looking for something, so I just threw on this beat 3 times.

So basically, our oline gets whipped bad in both of those games.

This is a quick breakdown of all on Peterman's snaps, pre-injury vs Florida. What really stood out to me was that Peterman made good decisions with the ball up until his final interception (which was horrible). He played better than I remembered. Obviously the turnovers killed us, but for the most part Peterman was accurate and made smart decisions. My big question is what were our coaches doing? Before the injury we called 5 pass plays (not counting run plays with a quick screen packaged on the backside). One was a running back screen that went for a good gain, and all of the rest were deep, downfield, vertical pass plays. We never threw a quick slant, hitch, shallow cross, out, curl, etc... to get Peterman into the game. We just let him go and hoped he could hit passes deep downfield in his first meaningful action on the road vs a top SEC defense. I feel like our coaches could've put Peterman in a much better position to suceed. Treat him like what he is. A RS FR on the road in a hostile environment in his first real action. They called plays like he was an All-SEC senior QB.

So really for me, if you could just remove the interception on the play Peterman was injured, then up until the injury I felt like Peterman played about as well as could be expected under the circumstances. Obviously the 3 turnovers stick out, though you could debate how much Peterman is to blame for the fumbles. But in general, Peterman wasn't as bad as we give him credit for before the injury. I'd really be interested to see Peterman in more games than this before we completely write him off. Hopefullyhe really is improved this year and if he gets on the field he can help us win some games.

Anyways, here are all his snaps before the injury.

-Inside zone handoff.
-Fumble on the attempted reverse.
-Outside zone read, Peterman keeps. Great read, but Tiny misses his block on the LB and Peterman gets killed.
-Playaction 3 Verticals. Pass is slightly underthrown. Side note. Why is Peterman's first pass on the road vs Florida a 40 yd shot play?
-Dropback pass, Peterman fumble. You can't see downfield, so I have no clue if Peterman had anyone open or not. Hard to blame him too much for the sack, the pressure got in fast and there didn't appear to be any "hot" reads. Got to hold on to the ball though.
-Screen to Neal. Pass was accurate and it goes for a good gain.
-Inside zone read, hand off to Neal. Great read, big gain.
-Reverse to North. Peterman kinda blocks Ronald Powell
-Inside zone with a quick screen. Accurate pass, but Smith drops it. We had a 3-1 advantage outside, so it was the right decision to throw it rather than hand off.
-QB sneak, Peterman converts.
-Inside zone slice. This was a handoff all the way, no read. It probably would've been smart to audible out of this play after seeing the blitzing corner.
-Playaction, double move to Josh Smith. Pass was catchable, but it could've been much more accurate.
-Dropback pass, throws right in the middle of 4 Florida players and gets picked off. Peterman was injured on the play.

Here is a USU fan that isn't nervous.

And about Florida going 4-8...just remember Utah went 5-7 last season in a conference of equal or slightly less difficulty than the SEC and they beat us while we had a healthy Chuckie Keeton playing great.

This guy was talking sense until... uhhhhh... WUT?

Yea did you see how Rajon looked Saturday night with a different line? Actually this is my attempt to convince myself we are better off now, so don't listen to me.

Haha ya, I was wondering if I read that right.

Comic gold:
I can see a scenario playing out where the Tennessee gets a couple long TD throws, the Offense is stagnant with some penalties, and some miscues, our O-line is getting beat on the edge and the Center position struggles. Throw in a blocked kick or a couple freak TOs and Tennessee is right in this thing.

for whatever reason, talented tennessee junior defensive end, outside linebacker and unquestioned team leader curt maggitt just can’t seem to get healthy once football pads start popping. It certainly isn’t a toughness question, but the frustration is very real for maggitt and others in the program who want so badly for him to stay 100 percent (or close) and be able to show his talent.

As we’ve mentioned several times in the past week, jones’ new injury policy is essentially the same thing as the first rule of fight club. The first rule is he’s no longer talking about injuries. The second rule is he’s no longer talking about injuries.

But multiple sources have confirmed to govols247 that maggitt has an ankle sprain and almost certainly will be held out this week, and possibly for the next couple of weeks.

It’s certainly a tough blow for maggitt, but, as one program source oh-so-optimistically said, “it could have been worse with him.” indeed. It could have been worse. But it’s not great news.

As long as he is ready by the start of the SEC games I guess it's ok... Sigh

Did Utah State ever announce the punishment for the two WR's that were arrested? Looked around, but couldn'couldn'tfind anything. Butler was their leading reciever.

I couldn't connect from about 6:30 am central to 7:45 am central this morning. Not on computer or mobile. Most boring crap I ever took this morning...

I'm sorry to hear that. :)

Still can't connect via comp. Other websites, no problem. really strange

I was unable to connect on my tablet this morning but phone works. Getting a DNS error on tablet.

Do either of you know how to do a ping test from your computer? Since the site is fine I'm wondering if there's a network issue with some ISPs this morning.
