Did Direct TV drop the Weather Channel? Seriously
Behind The Weather Channels DirecTV Replacement WeatherNation - TVNewser
Sorta like The Weather Channel without the superfluous other stuff. And if you have internet access, you can do better than the Weather Channel.

I called direct after my introductory low rate expired after 12 months on a 24 month contract. Made my way to retention and got my introductory rate back (25 bucks a month savings). Took about 20 minutes of bs ing with someone who couldnt help me. The retention specialist told me to just ask for retention next time. fyiI am getting ready to drop dish. Too expensive for what you get. Same as direct. They both suck.
Think i am going to streaming over the net. Gonna lose a few things, but i don't watch enough to spend 75-85 bucks a month.

I used to install both and I would advise people to listen to this mans advice. Better yet, stop a guy, better a contractor than a dish or direct van, usually new and not as experienced, and give him 25 bucks to repoint your dish. Have him check your wall plates and install high frequency barrel connectors. Then have him get retention on the phone for you. Never penetrate your roof. Pole in the ground every time if possible. A guy with a super buddy meter is preferred. Then a bird dog meter. If they're not using one of these two, move on. Ask what meter he uses first thing.
Mine is on the roof. Why do you advise against this?
If it has pitch patch under it it will be fine... To a certain point. You should get up there and check it for seepage/rot every year tho. If I lived close to you I'd put it on a pole, fill the 10, count em 10 holes with construction adhesive and replace a couple shingles. A 60 to 80 dollar pole mount is cheap compared to a 10k roof job. If you don't have a black looking thick tape under your mount which the screws penetrate, find a guy in your area pronto. If it's on an eave you are fine but they are flimsy. Move it to a pole as well
You have no idea what you've just done. Im kind of a worry wart. I may get the ladder and flashlight out right friggin now...
I'm the same way, I'd be careful tho. It's icy out. If it's at the bottom of your roof potential leaks will always rot below it. It used to drive me nuts to see one at the top of a roof. You want it low at one of the 4 corners. Sometimes tho, trees dictate placement. Get a guy to come over to see your setup, tell your options from an inclinometer, and inspect every fitting, barrel connector, line..rg6 or god forbid r59, everything. I'd charge prob about 50 plus repoint your dish so don't pay much more than that unless he needs to start replacing the aforementioned. You can tell if your barrels are high freq, they are blue (in the very center) most always, very occasionally orange. If they are clear or made from brass they suck.
Plus I wouldn't have to nearly kill myself getting to the dish to remove ice if it was on a pole.
Since this has been a topic of discussion the last couple of weeks I thought I'd bring the discussion here. Could be a fun debate.
