Then what is the motivation for the defense to get back? If they slow down the rest of the defense can catch up or the offense is offside if they don't slow down too?

He only needs to be onside until the ball is kicked. If they time it right, he can be at speed while the defense is not and he can get behind them

Also, the kicker can do what's called a through ball which is to kick the ball through a defense. Then any offensive player can chase it because you are always onside when you are behind the ball.

And just as an FYI, you are never offsides on your side of the field.

Tennessee is different without Hooker? How can they justify that? There has only been 1 game w/o him and we scored a 56-0 shutout over a Vanderbilt team who reeled off a couple decent wins.
