It will be interesting to see where LSU lands this week. I could see a scenario where they upset Georgia and get in as the SEC champ. No way they keep the SEC champion out of the playoffs, so it would come down to us and UGA, and UGA will get in because they beat the crap out of us.
We need them to win out to get a shot.
Next week:
Colorado at USC
Indiana at Ohio St
Washington at Oregon
Arizona at UCLA
Stanford at Utah
Mizzou at Tennessee
LSU at Arkansas
Louisville at Clemson
Nebraska at Michigan
Alabama at Ole Miss
Georgia at Miss St
Kansas St at Baylor
TCU at Texas
Still some opportunity for things to move around. As long as we dominate Mizzou we will be 4-6.
The next week:
Tenn at SCar
Ohio St at Maryland
Georgia at Kentucky
Miami at Clemson
Illinois at Michigan
TCU at Baylor
Utah at Oregon
USC at UCLA
UAB at LSU
Ole Miss at Arkansas
K State at WVU
Austin Peay at Bama
Final Week:
Miss St at Ole Miss
UCLA at Cal
Vols at Vandy
Ga Tech at UGA
SCar at Clemson
Auburn at Bama
Iowa St at TCU
Oregon at Oregon St
Notre Dame at USC
LSU at TAMU
Kansas at K State
Utah at Colorado
Mich St at Penn St
Illinois at NW
WVU at Ok St
Mich at Ohio St
The point is, there is a lot of football left to play this month. We have survived all of our hardest tests, and we have some opportunities to pad our standing. In the meantime, we get to watch everyone else around us fight for their lives.
Given that TCU has had the luxury of playing mostly backup QBs this season, I think they will run into some real tests now.
The PAC 12 teams will all take care of each other.
Lots of spoiler opportunities for rivals in the final week of the season.
The trendy SEC teams on our heels will start taking each other out.
A TCU or Oregon loss and we’re practically guaranteed a playoff spot.
I think the committee will have some recency bias. Our loss was much later in the season, but I totally get what you are saying. Overall, our resume' is far superior, but if the committee perceives that Oregon is playing like a playoff team, they could put them in.Lol…you think Oregon gets in over us?? Same team that lost by 46 on a neutral field to the team that beat us by 14 in their home stadium??
Bingo. Tons and tons needs to go wrong (outside of our control). The rest if firmly in our control. Some doomsday scenarios:
1) Georgia and LSU win out and UGA somehow loses to LSU in the SECCG.
2) Michigan and Ohio St win out and play an absolute classic in The Game.
3) TCU wins out.
4) One of Oregon or USC wins out.
If 2 or more of those things happen then we are in trouble.
I don't think there's more than a 5% chance of 2 of those things happening though.
This is all correct and I’m a little disappointed with myself to be feeling as down as I do today. Not as down as I did after Purdue or UGA 2020. I should be giddy this is such a good season and a strong finish will likely restore those feelings, but dadgummit I think the Vols are good enough to have competed better than they did and I’m just bummed we sorta fell flat.
I think some of the stuff guys have been talking about. More screens, more slants and crossing routes and our playmakers have to break tackles or make people miss.So guys...if we can get back to face UGA again...now that we know what they will do, what is the gameplan to defeat that defense...plus we have to stop their offense better.
Pretty much!
Pretty much!
Even if we get left out at 5 or 6 and go to the SUGAR BOWL, and WIN. That's an awesome season!
We don't have to go to the playoff for this to be a successful season.
Winning a NY6 game on the big stage with everyone watching anyway, especially if our offense is high flying and impressive, will do just as much if not more for recruiting and this program's momentum.
