Yeah, but Haney's hit piece on the intern was spot on... I mean, he had beaucoup unnamed sources.
He also did a fairly good job over there imo. I was surprised he took another job somewhere else but I guess it's possible they just replaced him.

Watching a game with Kelly Bryant right now, he’s not even close to being as good as Drew Lock imo.
Never was. All the consternation when he landed at Mizzou for a productive player who doesn’t elevate the offense. That didn’t change when the roster was suddenly much less talented than the one he exited. He’s better than Malik Zaire if you’re talking grad transfers imo but that’s the bottom of that list. He won’t hinder what Dooley’s trying to do with their scheme, but I don’t anticipate him repeating Lock’s surgeon act either.

In terms of maturity and game readiness, there's a clear gap. We'll see what Chaney can do, but JG absolutely can't take the hits like he did last year. The OL will be better, but JG's going to have to be more aware, as well.

And he doesn’t need to be running the ball a lot. Get out of bounds or throw it away.

i think getting him some designed runs would actually help the protections. you don't need to go crazy with it, but there will be situations where he would be able to take advantage of a pass rush, and get up field.

but again, that goes back to some of his decision making processes, and his own situational awareness.

lmao I also read somewhere that Fields is in a battle with the transfer from Kentucky. Said that there is no separation between the two. So its possible that both these slap nuts get beat out for the starting job. lol

Are we buying this?

Interesting question and I like the way you phrased it. I think Ubben is a dweeb. Just my personal opinion. Some people like his writing skills but I don't know where he would have gotten any football acumen. He seems to excel best at hustling our fanbase for money. jmo.

Still, if you look at it from a Pruitt viewpoint you can began to figure out who will probably be the first guys on the field. Pruitt said, in regards to the whole team, that we have 3 groups of guys, those with ability that know what to do and have some experience (returning production for the most part), those who have some ability and know what to do but have no experience (guys who enrolled in January or didn't play last year), and those who have some ability but don't know what to do and obviously have no experience (guys who got to campus in June).

So with Pruitt the question is for our d-line who are our top 3 guys? And then who is the 4th? He said last week that for the most part we played last year with a 4 man rotation up front and I hope for Pruitt's sake that Paul Bain did not hear that comment.

Butler played I think around 120 snaps last year. We had fans on here in the spring writing Emerson off as a bust but he's one who has ability and knows what to do but he didn't get a lot of experience last year. Mincey, I think has been banged up but he also got into a few games last year before he got hurt. He obviously didn't redshirt. I haven't heard that Solomon is eligible but he has ability, was here in the spring, and has big 10 experience at least.

My impression has been from both the practice reports and from Pruitt is that Middleton is coming along fast but doesn't have any D-1 experience. He, Williams, and Simmons are in the group with ability, don't know what to do (but learning with 9 practices in) and have no experience.

Not listed in that opinion piece are Harris, Bumphus, and Blakely. Harris redshirted last year and I think Bumphus and Blakely were both on the other side of the ball.

So there you have it. I think it will probably be Butler, Emerson, & Middleton unless Solomon gets his waiver in which case Solomon will take 1st team snaps from either Butler or Middleton. Butler could have the edge over Middleton simply based on being in the system for 2 years compared to Middleton's 2 months. Williams, I don't know where he figures yet. The adjustment may be more challenging for him that I expected. Still, I think we have 16 more practices and 2 more scrimmages before game week gets here so we wait and watch and speculate and here on VolNation we don't charge each other subscription fees. We are such fools. jmo.

I'm still confused by the "KY will be good" mindset.

To be honest they were pretty freaking lucky last year to hit 10 wins...and most of it was the defense which lost a ton of talent/starters. All 3 losses the opposing only had to score 18 points to win.

Only had 2 wins where they gave up more than 20 points, MTSU & Penn State (in the bowl game). They held Florida to 16, MSU to 7, USC to 10, Vandy to 7, Missouri to 14, and Louisville to 10.

Lost 5 of their top 7 in tackles & INTs and people seem to think they'll "reload" seemed like every team that was prepared and focused on KY (Georgia & Tennessee) dominated them. Unless Stoops finds some way to move the ball without Snell I think it's going to be a rough season for the Wildcats.

Rotation will be important so starting shouldn’t be sweated. No iron men.

So yeah if you leave the DL into one of three Tiers then this is probably my best guess

Tier 1 (ability & experience)
Aubrey Solomon
Matthew Butler
Emmit Gooden

Tier 2 (ability & a bit less experience)
Greg Emerson
Savion Williams
Darel Middleton
John Mincey
Kingston Harris

Tier 3 (lacking the most experience)
Elijah Simmons
Kurott Garland
LaTrell Bumphus (is a Jr though)
Ja'Quain Blakely (is a RS-Jr though)

Thankfully we get a lot of edge rushing from OLBs where we probably have more Tier 1 & Tier 2 guys than Tier 3 types. I also think Bumphus, Blakely, Harris, and Emerson all having been through a season with this staff is a benefit to them even if they didn't play very much.

Reminds me a lot of the 98 dline group. A lot of guys roughly the same but no true superstar. Walker was solid as a transfer and Ratliff wasbetter than average imo . I just hope we can force the los this year.
