My brother in law played baseball at ETSU when Calvin and those guys were at ETSU. I can't remember their names, but they had one guy that grew like six inches between his senior year in HS and his freshman year at ETSU (edit: I looked it up. It is Greg Dennis). (IN before TWSS). He said Calvin was an unbelievable athlete and so was Mister Jennings. Jennings was only like 5' 7" but was a fantastic PG. Super quick and super strong.
I was a ball boy for those teams. It was amazing. We were ranked like 10 in the country at one point. I still play against Calvin in a winter basketball league. He shoots the lights out.

Looks like a good 7-5 season to me. Maybe 8-4 if we can beat SC at home. Toss-up, though.

Yeah, I'm thinking 7 or 8 wins. Feel pretty solid about it.

Screw the 'Muschamp curse'. I just hate that we play them right after Alabama. That hangover is real, win or lose.

S&C is key. Keeping Will Friend (I get that Pittman is ---marginally--- better, but I'd rather have continuity with CWF) and the OL class we have coming in.. it'll take time, but we should be jelling by the end of the year. Not really worried about the rest of our offense, though. I like JG, I like our RB's now that we've added Gray, I love our WR corps, and I'm hopeful at TE.

Extra help in the secondary, and hopefully consistent LB coaching will keep our defense at least from floundering. I am worried about the DL outside of Gooden. I know we have pieces, but playing time is the best medicine.

This is they year of zero expectations for Memphis.

Next year is an entirely different story. They'll be expected to get into the NCAA tourney at the minimum. After that, idk, more delusional fans will probably expect him to be like Cal at Kentucky or something. I'd be happy with regular NCAA appearances and hitting the Sweet 16 when we're good enough to.

Sorry, just pushing back a little on the hamfisted "Memphis/Penny is trash" talk.

Btw, "trash" is used almost more liberally than "literally" which I find kind of annoying. If everything is either "trash" or "amaaazing", why do we have all these other adjectives?
Good point...we literally have thousands of adjectives...it's amazing.

Well like your optomistic outlook but it's going to depend on our oline and after last few years I'll take a wait and see on that

Yea, nothing to lose for Penny this year. As a Memphis fan, you would hope that he could win a game he isn't supposed to along the way. Good coaches (Pruitt) do that. But he hasn't really had a bad loss either.

But, Penny is in a league where he can stay in the top 4 or so based on talent alone. I believe Houston, which is tied for the league lead, only has 1 nationally ranked player on its roster. Cincinnati, the other leader, has several, with only one being top 100. Penny recruited 3 nationally ranked players that are freshmen. They have talent for that league, but they are just young.

I hadn't heard this until just now

Drew Lock had decided to leave Mizzu until DD was hired. He felt playing a year under an NFL guy was needed

I found that interesting

I think Miss St will have a huge fall off on defense. They lose like 7 starters and two of those are going to be high first rounders on the DL. Fitzgerald is massive loss.

With Simmons leaving, MSU loses 6 of 8 in the DL two deep. They also lose 4 in the secondary.

Just saw that Simmons and Preston Williams won't be invited to the Combine for past transgressions.

@bama, @FL, and UGA are auto losses (0-3)

@Missouri, Miss St, and Scar are toss ups (1-2)

@UK, Vandy, and BYU, and UAB are likely wins (3-1)

GA state and Chattanooga are auto wins (2-0)

Final record 6-6
UGA and UF are not automatic losses. But I would say likely losses. With a great performance we could pull off an upset in one of those games.

We ain't beating Bammer.

All non-confernce games should be wins.

We will beat UK, Vandy, and MSU.

USCe and Mizzou will be toss ups, but we have USCe at home. I say we'll get one of those games.

8-4 is very possible. 7-5 possible too. Anything less would be depressing.
