And when Defense start loading up on small quick DLs and LBs to stop that offense...Some "genius, innovative" offensive coaches will load up on behemoth mauler OL, TEs and FBs and start running it right down everybodies throat, and running for 3-400 yards a game, while winning ToP 4-1. And nobody will be able to do a damn thing to stop it...until defenses adjust personell and scheme again...and round and round we will go..

At least that is how I see it. Really what is the difference in winning 63-45 and 23-17?

Being multiple is key. Why do you think institutions like Alabama and New England have stuck around so long? Because they understand this.

Why do you think Chip Kelly lit the NFL on fire for a season and then fizzled out? Because he didn't.

Exactly. Multiple is the way, I do not trust pure system guys.

Same goes for the defense. If they execute, you won't get first downs. College football is less about scheme and more about the players. Execution has always been key in this game.

But still, it's my preference we have a guy that understands multiple types of offenses and runs the best fit for his players. Not someone who beats his head into a wall trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole. Keeping the defense guessing gives the offense a significant advantage.

But honestly at this point, I'm so frustrated with this program that I don't expect anything more than mediocrity and pray that I am pleasantly surprised.
If that were really true it would not explain these TX high school teams with perpetual 2-10 records, adopting the Tony Franklin system and reaching playoffs first year, state champions the next, with very mediocre players. The system with really good players is the most logical route to take.

Art briles ran the veer and won state championships, but realized in the playoffs he was going to be going against really good players. Stretching horizontally wasnt enough. So he adapted Leach system to his and leach quickly hired him. Men with football smarts have adopted this philosophy.... I am paying attention to what they have to say

Player talent is why Bama & Patriots are who they are. Both HCs can see talent that fits what they do and if you do it at each position your scheme is less important.

It's why Kelly fizzled too, he took more control of player choices and sucks at it.

Then what is the downside? Long term..DCs figure this out like they always, and then your screwed because you are anchored to a dead system?
How is it anymore of a dead system than old dinosaur offense that DC’s have already shut down? New OC’s and offenses will come and change it up again and move the ball at will like they have since football was invented, especially the last 25/30 years or so.

Makes sense. He wants a high potential offense like Yurcich. Thought he had Yurcich but he chose OsU. So Jeremy goes back and talks with one of the 3 guys he interviewed
Just by looking at stats I think it'll be a good hire. How it'll translate to this team, who knows? We'll see in 8 months if he's the hire

It is true that defenses will adapt to new offenses. It is also true that differences in offense can also translate to overall changes in scoring and yards gained, even after defenses adapt. There is nothing that says that this is a zero sum change. Given the choice I would rather have an innovator that puts you on the front edge of those changes.

Saban was able to drag his feet because of his superior talent. But goodness...how stupid did his offense become when he finally got a real QB and started using better offensive strategies. Bet he doesn't go back.

Are you really comparing Texas high school football to college and the NFL?

If so, I can't help you man. Apples to oranges dude.

So recapping the OC search from the sounds of things:

- Talked to Freeze, likely that SEC said no go since he wound up at Liberty instead of anywhere else.

- Talked to Chip Lindsey, who quickly moved on to Kansas so we obviously weren’t interested.

- Interviewed Briles, wasn’t a fit. Went to FSU.

- Interviewed Lebby, never any traction reported and both sides seemed to move on. Could speculate that interview was actually more about digging into Briles’s baggage. Now he’s being mentioned as a potential candidate again?

- Interviewed and offered Yurcich. Spurned last minute when OSU offered him.

- Took break to focus on recruiting and holidays, also thought we had our guy in Yurcich (probably the 95% hire that DM reported).

- Rumored discussions with Sark and Chaney, conflicting reports over whether those were just friendly chats or interviews.

- Supposedly ramped up discussions with candidates, but we really have no idea who those candidates are?

From the AV tidbits, my guess is Fulmer was the “traveler” he mentioned. Probably needed him in town to make the offer to Yurcich. Use of the marshmallow man was due to the Yuricich guy who worked on that scene (no idea if he’s related, but the name is really similar so still close enough to be the point of the hint).

I have no idea who we end up with, but it probably needs to be someone that Pruitt can trust to just lead that entire side of the ball. I personally doubt it will be an inexperienced guy. Not sure how much recruiting prowess will really matter, I don’t think Yurcich is a renowned recruiter.

Stay puft marshmallow man. Is that a fat joke? 😂

Texas HS football has been the catalyst for what college and the NFL have been adapting. The big 12 has adapted to it years ago and recruits those HS players that know and practice that system year round they're whole lives so they come in and are able to kill it in college. Now the NFL is starting to realize it and adapt and many players who were always considered system players that wouldn't succeed in the NFL are now able to be very good at the highest level. It's not about comparing levels. It's about showing the progression and what the future of football looks like.
