No way Pruitt would wait for an OC at another school to stay at that school and recruit for them until after ESD. If it is a big hire, then he may have some recruits he could influence to come to TN. Tells me it has to be a NFL guy or a trot hire that doesn’t have SEC level recruits to bring to TN.

100% agree

Like letting your new head coach stay with his former employer to help them win a National Championship?

If it is Sark (and I am sure that's a BIG if) then he wouldn't want this announced before his season is over because the players would absolutely check out. They aren't going to the playoffs, but if it was announced he was going back to college I am sure Arthur Blank would just tell him to go ahead and get started at TN.

With that said, if he for sure wasn't coming back to the Falcons then you would think they would have already let him go, since they aren't going to the playoffs. This leads me to believe that it isn't Sark.

Unless..... We aren't recruiting the same players.....

VN OC playbook:
  1. Identify candidate
  2. Discuss candidate
  3. Have doubts about candidate
  4. Talk candidate up
  5. Foam at the mouth for candidate
  6. Post waiting gifs about candidate's announcement
  7. Dissect vague media tweets
  8. Have doubts candidate is coming
  9. Find out candidate isn't coming
  10. Post gifs about train-wrecked search
Repeat as necessary.
Do we still follow this playbook if the candidate doesn't use a playbook?

But why do you have to wait for an NFL guy? That would help with recruiting.

Maybe they're not recruiting the same players.

Exactly. Or maybe there's another coaching change that goes along with this OC hire that could affect the kids signing early.

Privately notify your important recruits of the new OC, get your horses in the barn for the early signing period, and then announce everything after the signing period ends.

I can't figure out why people think UT uses elaborate deception strategies to keep big hires under wraps for no discernible reason. UT doesn't have a PR machine. Recruits wouldn't keep a secret. And the coaches wouldn't expect them to. If Pruitt knows who he's hiring, he's keeping it to himself.

You forgot 5a. Hammer any dissenters of said candidate. Also you're being extremely generous and kind with the wording on #7...

maybe it's just the affect of 5 years of butch and his PR/campaigning practices, but if it's really just a matter of announcing the hire (and i'm not sure that's all it is mind you, just that IF it is....) could they be holding off so they could introduce him over this weekend to the prospects coming in to town this weekend? using that as a recruiting tool, and then announcing it ON ESD?

Price's tweet just say it wouldn't be before signing day....

cause you're all right, there's little to no reason to NOT announce your hire, unless you're doing for some purpose that benefits you.

and being as close as we are to ESD, maybe this is a tool they're using with recruits.

probably reaching. don't care. lol.

That's the spirit. We're all just guessing. No need to take it seriously.

not even close to the same. everyone knew pruitt was coming to TN, it had been announced, and he was recruiting for TN.

Fair enough. But the whole idea is F'in absurd to me. You pay somebody $4M/year to run your football program and have to wait for him to coach for another team?
