yep. siap, briles has baggage. much like freeze. the difference being he was never fired, and has been hired twice since then. the information out htere on briles, some if it is not very good, but the majority of it is "according to reports..." type stuff, aside from the title ix law suit he's named in.

bottom line, there's enough smoke that it will require some serious vetting (and i think that's either been done, or is being done) once again.

it'll bring the ire of the media because it's TN and the Schiano fiasco. we'll be called hypocrites. and in some ways we are. at least some of us. i never put much stock in to the Penn St stuff with him. it was 3rd part heresay that his name was even brought up.

Schian was a beyond terrible choice for this job. the PSU cloud, if you can call it that, was just baggage. many of our fans misconstrued and used that as a reason to justify not wanting him. and maybe rightfully so, i don't know that he WASN'T involved in that stuff.

i do know he was an terrible choice and a bad football coach that had enough baggage from his time in the NFL to warrant skepticism.

as for Briles, much better coach. really what we need offensively speaking. just have to decide are we willing to go thru the PR mess?

i dont' think being scared of bad PR should be a reason not to hire him, especially if you've done your homework and are confident in what you've found in the vetting process. cause at the end of the day, if members of the media have an axe to grind, it's not like they're going to pay attention to any relevant facts to do so. the majority of their audiences are going to be ignorant of any real details and the name "briles" and "baylor rape scandal" will be enough to generate the reaction they want.

lss, the media is going to do what it's going to do, regardless of how well we did at vetting him, and regardless of what facts may be out there to support Kendall's actual involvement in what happened at Baylor.

if he's your guy, hire him. we start winning and he gives no reason to be questioned further, it'll wind up being a great redemption story.

Yeah it's not like Tennessee is viewed as this wonderful and honorable program by those media folks anyways and this hire would be the thing that broke their long standing faith in us.

They're looking for reasons to attack us on something. Always have and always will.

I hate what happened at Baylor. I don't want anything to do with that scandal. But the man has been approved and hired by 2 seperate programs since.

It's not really fair to say that this is a Tennessee problem. (They will say that though). If anything it's a college football problem, which is another conversation altogether. And one most of these folks that will throw us under the bus don't want to have because they are making a living and profiting off the sport just like everybody else.

All we can do is protect our players and program as best we can while trying to win as many football games as possible.

Kendal was a part of something awful as a young coach. You hope he learned from the mistakes he made and the ones he saw his father make and he can move forward and create his own legacy. It seems like thats what he's been doing ever since.

Pruitt and Fulmer will do their homework. If they sign off on it then I'm on board.

Fitz loves it here. I don’t see him leaving.
I hope your rite, but this is something we better set used to if we're going to have good coaches. Others will always be coming after them. It would be a good problem to have, that means we're producing on the field and the coaches are highly sought after.

pruitt may handcuff him to a work out bench. i don't see him allowing Fitz to leave if it ever gets to the point of having to make that decision. this goes in the "cross that bridge if we get to it" category.

and this is what happens whey you hire good coaches/people. they're in demand. not a bad thing.
Yes 100%

that buzz you're talking about is a little overrrated considering where it's generated and who it's for..........

this class will still be very good. i don't like losing pappoe, but he's not making/breaking the class.
still have 3 months til Feb.......no reason to freak out now.

that comes later. lol.

Yeah we still have a lot of time, and make no mistake, I'm not freaking out, just making an observation of how the wind is blowing in a different direction. Look, at the end of the day, we now have a real coaching staff that is actually coaching and developing the talent we have for the first time in 5yrs... That makes a huge difference. Then add in another full class of athletes that THEY picked, and we can only get better. We got whipped by several teams that had much lower rated talent, but they were developed and well coached. That will start to change next year.

yeah. agreed. i doubt seriously phil put on his blinders and is walking in to something w/out having all relevant info to make the decision.

TN fans are going to just have to trust that.

and maybe not go on social media for a while. lol.

Me either. He'd really have to hate working for Pruitt to want to leave what he has at UT and I don't sense that being an issue at all. I think it's more likely he's here many years than leaves anytime soon.

That dude is just getting warmed up... of all the assistants/staff we have right now, this guy is going to continue to kick arse and get these boys rolling. You know he had to fight a number of lazy butch boys this season, but moving forward the culture is going to be totally different and he is a big reason.

yep.
that said, the s&c coach is really important. and if you look at Saban and his coaches, there's one guy that's been there, and will be there, as long as he is...and that's Scott Cochran.

i would imagine Pruitt probably feels the same about Fitz. crucial coach, crucial role in establishing your culture and obviously getting wha tyou need mentally and physically from the team.

fitz isn't going anywhere.

forget the talent rankings. they simply don't matter in regards to 2018.

and they really wont' matter in 2019 either, regardless of how high this class finishes. we're going to get younger this off season. that has it's own inherent pitfalls, regardless of how talented they are. youth does what youth does. you just try to limit the mistakes and maximize the talent/skill.

you're right about the development. i think another year helps the guys coming back. and as for the future, i think the 2020 class has achance to be really special, and 2020/2021 could be a couple really good years for us on the field.

then, just maintain. it literally is a process.

and winds will change again next week.....

Just saw Briles at the airport...

The only reason Fitz is being mentioned is because he went to school there. If he went, with all that crap Maryland just had, that s&c program will be heavily watched and scrutinized going forward, seriously doubt he would want that kind of scrutiny and micromanagement
