Let me guess. You're over the age of 35.
To us guys in our 20s and to the teens we are recruiting its just another game we know we get curb stomped every year. It's barely a rivalry.
Over 35, yes...and the thing is, Bone, I understand what you're saying, about how it's perceived by young fans, I see it and get it; for the last 12 yrs, it's been nothing but boatraces and embarrassments for the most part.
However, 12 yrs does not make a 100 YEAR OLD RIVALRY. It does not wipe out what came before, and what both programs and fanbases have built around this one game; no matter how much you guys think it and say it...its laughable to even try and fathom such a thing...just the 'now', does not make a RIVALRY...and that's what we're talking about, right, whether the TSIO is still a rivaly?
It doesn't wipe ANYTHING away for long-time Vol fans, nor long-time Bama fans. To long-time Bama fans, UT is still their hated rival...I know, because I worked all last year with 2 of the biggest Bama fans I've ever met, and they reminded me everyday how much us Vols are hated. That should tell you something, Bama fans still feeling that way toward us.
Before Saban, Bama was still considered one of the top 5 programs, all-time, in college football...for many, the greatest. They were still mentioned in the same sentence as Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio St, USC...before Saban. And before Saban, Bama led the series with us by only 6 games, and we are STILL the program that has beaten them the most times.
Point being, again...just the 'now' does not make a 100 yr old rivalry.
