Disagree on the point about OL to some extent. You can’t completely make up for a bad OL. You’re just gonna have some negative plays with an OL like ours. But good OCs will vary your playcalling so that defenses don’t know what’s coming and try to implement some plays that don’t ask too much of the OL.

Rolling out 5-6 times a game isn’t unreasonable. Do a couple rollouts and then you can slip a FB or TE on a wheel route sometimes. You can do PA rollouts. Can’t do it every play, but there’s no reason not to incorporate that into an offense that struggles so much up front.

Some teams with bad OLs just emphasize bubble screens, quick slants, and RPOs to kind of take DLs out of the game.

What you can’t do is be so predictable with your playcalling that defenses know there’s an 80% chance they can sell out for the run. Or only call screen plays in obvious 3rd and long situations where the defense knows a screen or draw is the one thing anybody who’s ever watched football knows to look for.
I don't disagree with any of that and don't feel he did either.
He wasn't talking about the UF game or any game. He was talking about over all, big picture. A coach can help mask here and there but the bottom line is, you HAVE to have lines in the SEC. No matter what you do, this is "big boy football" and your not going to be truly competitive without the big boys

Obviously, but there's plenty Helton can do in the meantime to minimize the OL impact until we can fix it. He can start by taking notes on what Kiffin did his year with the walk-on Sullins twins anchoring our OL.

Who’s to say JG didn’t recognize the blitz? Pruitt mentioned yesterday after the game that “it’s hard to take care of the football when the QB is blind sided before he has a chance to throw”, he said today and blamed DWA and RB. We blocked 7, they rushed 5. He coulda checked it at the line, or maybe Helton doesn’t even give him that responsibility. They had two guys on the left side we had 3, It’s not JG’s fault lol

Uh, no. The first int we kept 7 in to block. Florida had 5 rushing the QB. DWA came down the line to block a defender, and Tim Jordan ran up to help block the same defender, letting #99 run right by him untouched. JG had the ball less than 3 seconds and was in the throwing motion when he got hit from behind.

1:33 mark here.

Fault JG all you want but be fair. Happened routinely last night where we kept 6-7 guys in to block 4-5 defenders, and the QB was getting killed back there still.

They actually delayed blitzed two more LB’s. Reese, who caught it, was also coming in. They brought 4 initially from the center and overloaded one side and ended up bringing 7. There were 4 DB’s out there on 3 WR’s so two were one on one. I don’t know what routes were run but the middle was wide open.

I guess you saw it better than Pruitt then.

Pruitt put it on the TE and fullback on his show this morning.

They didn’t help either, but they ended up bringing 7. There were two WR’s who were one on one. There has to be some key there upon snap to see that coming.

Look, I am not down on JG as much as Helton. He could have put everyone in a better position instead of calling 26 first down runs.

JG also knew he had plenty of blockers to take on the blitz. Jordan screwed it up.

We got to quit trying to run it down people's throats. Run 1sr and 2nd then obvious 3rd Down throw is just too predictable with a bad OL. Need to start throwing to set up the run. Throwing in 1st down or 2nd somethin different.

You don’t always have enough blockers just because seven stay in to block seven. If the defense overloads then there are more defenders one side. There was at least one guard who didn’t have anyone to block.

I understand it’s not all on JG but he still isn’t always aware. But Helton didn’t help him either.

I dont think it has to do with someone not being the guy, thats just where the program is right now

No. Tennessee is still a place you can recruit to and has one of the top facilities in the country. Do you remember how much our team lacked talent in 2013? Go back and look at the roster. It was just as bad as this year, we overachieved. If Pruitt can close out with a top 15, even top 20 recruiting class there’s ZERO reason to go 6-6 in year three and 4-8 in year 2

Sounds like someone is not telling the truth.

I'm not calling anyone a liar but wouldn't there have been 100,000+ witnesses to this claim? I don't doubt that things got heated but if someone had to be restrained on the sideline it's hard to imagine that both our fans and the tv announcers wouldn't have pointed it out when it happened. Hell JG was just a kid last season when him simply sitting by himself was enough for the idiot announcer and our fans to grill him alive for his 'body language' on the sideline.

IDK it just seems a bit of stretch to go from confrontation/yelling to physical restraint. Maybe it felt that way to Sapp but I don't know how that would've been missed by everyone when it happened.

I already said..
Nevermind. I don't believe Kiffin was in the exact same shape but I do agree that there are things that can help.
I just passed along what someone fairly familiar with being a lineman in the SEC had to say. Maybe we can just get him on VN one day and he can be taught ☺️

They didn’t bring 7. The other 2 never rushed

They first 3rd down of the game UF ran the same play that we turned the ball over on. The first time was a delayed LB blitz Jordan went outside and picked up the free rusher. The second 3rd down we were trying to run a similar play and UF brought the olb again it wasnt on a delay and for whatever reason DWA or Jordan didnt go outside. It looks like DWA had outside responsibilities and Jordan had the linebacker, but DWA passed the DE to Jordan at wasnt even looking at him.

Thats a big IF. There are no peer recruiting legacies to build the class around this year, and what does Pruitt have to sell besides early PT which can only get him so far.

Do some of you guys even football? The team has been in orange jerseys and Pruitt is calling the defensive plays. He is wearing white so he doesn't blend in on the sidelines to the players trying to receive the signal. This not wearing orange mess has to be the stupidest bs I've ever seen on Volnation.

Top 15 at the very least. Anything lower and I'm going to be very concerned going forward. Needs to be top 10.
