Onside kick one player was supposed to drill the Florida player and the others go for the ball .
It was there. What the hell can a coach do when a player decides to do what he wants to do?
Pretty much.

Week after week, we hear how players miss assignments. It appears to be this much more than scheme.

I know the OL makes it really difficult but Helton has to do better. Quicker throws, move the pocket, bootleg, creative screens, running backs more involved in the passing game, counters...

I remember in high school I’d look so slow on tape when I’d be going full speed on the field. I think we are just used to watching skill players that run at least a 4.5-4.6.

Pope probably runs a 4.8-4.9 and a DB had an angle on him. That being said, I feel constantly gaslit by the VQ guys. They would mention how athletic Pope is and stories on how he’d hurdle guys in practice. After hearing that I expected...more.
Expecting VQ to have stories this week on Tennessee’s big win over Florida

I see three outcomes with our Offense. 1 it’s all Helton (gameplan, Scheme, play Calling, ect) we fire him soon (better be before year 3 or Pruitt can say bye). 2 Its Pruitt, he has a strong hand in Philosophy, Identity of who we are. He either refuses to change and is fired quickly (worse version of Muschamp to UF), or he turns it all over to Helton.
I still think it's too early to make a judgment about our offense. Our line is so atrocious. We did leave one touchdown on the field last night and 28 should have been enough to beat Florida. You cannot blame Helton and the staff for 6 turnovers. We had almost 400 yards against a decent SEC defense.

Not much to say about last night that hasn’t already been said. I found myself just staring off into space instead of watching a lot of the game. Just pitiful.

There was a play with a little over 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter than a UF DB lost his helmet on the play. He kept trying to stay in the game and official kept telling him he had to leave. Player jogs towards sideline and gets to the numbers, ref turns his back, and Mullen grabs kid and sends him back out there and official never notices. Just wondering if anyone else saw that?

I am going to suggest something totally insane. Play McBride. Only a true dual threat QB can survive with this Oline.

About Austin Pope. I run 5 miles a day and I’m about to turn 37. This young man is a college athlete who has trained all offseason etc and he had a 50 yard sprint and he looked like he was going to fall over from being gassed after that play. After he caught it I couldn’t believe how slow he was and then on top of that how a tight end tries to jump over a db instead of just lowering his shoulder and getting whatever yards he can. He wanted to score I get it but gracious his hands were on his hips afterward like he had just finished a 5k.
In fairness, hands on hips can also signify stunned disbelief at something...so I'm willing to bet he wasn't the only Tennessee affiliated person striking that particular pose.

i dont' think it matters who the qb is. but it's obvious we're gonna have to play both kids.

the o line just isn't good, and against SEC front 7's we won't be able to run the ball to take the pressure off.

we may have to do the old run, run, pass punt, just to make sure one of the qb's stays healthy. cause you can flat tee off on our QB's and we have NO ANSWER for it. we have got to be one of the easiest offensive teams to game plan against.

We ran the ball 26 times on 1st down compared to i think 4 passes on 1st down the play calling is worse than the butch era. I have to voice left after yelling about the play calling the entire game.

Helton has a lot of learning to do. Not sure which was worse compared to last year. But I thought we should have gone to the quick passing game. We had a few first half mid range pssses that were pretty wide open.

Sorry but I saw very little holding on the ball tonight. There simply wasn't time to do anything different than he did

It’s not just holding the ball. It’s identifying where pressure is coming. The mind is important thing for a QB. The reason for his first fumble was pressure from left. Chandler had to pick up another rusher on the inside, as one is taught to do. Block inside out. But JG has to recongnize it.

Did you guys watch the same coaching search in 2017 that I did??

No one wanted the job!

The idea that UT can throw money at an elite coach and win big early went down in flames last November. This is as good as it gets.

Buckle up and get used to it.
Yes, we all saw the coaching search, the one without a Search Firm? The one with a pre-determined outcome, Schiano? Somehow we are to believe that an experienced coach wouldn’t take a top tier compensation package from one of the top ten revenue producing football schools? We can and should do better. Top leadership has let us down.

Pile on Sunday has begun.

I still believe in CJP and much of his staff. However, Helton's take on who to play and how to play against quality competition is a bit mystifying. At one time I saw 4 O-linemen playing out of their natural positions with one 4 year incompetent along with them in Richmond. There is no true C with Kennedy out. It would be a pointless exercise to go by position as the coaches are paid to know, even though they are trying to make a silk purse out of sow's ears. Some on here would accurately describe it as an excrement show. Jordan is a scout teamer. He will not adapt to teams who set an edge (WVU didn't). You can see the difference with Chandler and Banks. London runs tough inside. Throw the ball to Callaway and JJ. Woods-Anderson is not ready for prime time. Brandon Johnson has not stepped up in his role in the slot. Move on to somebody who will. I'm not throwing Pope under the bus. His first big moment and he blew it much like the rest of the team has. I remember the now infallible Dobbs fumbling at the goal line as well.

For ST - Callaway is not a returner. Find one, like Thompson or anybody else that can catch the ball and run two steps. Teach the on-side guys to take out the closest receiver(s) to the ball. It was a brilliant call that was poorly executed.

The line was the best unit on D. I don't know what they are going to do with the rest. Taylor and Thompson are players. Jackson along with Warrior occasionally flash. Having to play Butch's guys who failed for him is just a bad deal for CJP. I guess they can play the least amount of them as possible and pray. Pointing out the total yards were similar is pointless. The game situations changed so much due to TO's that UF did not need a lot of time on O. Giving up short fields does that.

Finally, Chryst needs to start. I fear for JG's future existence on this planet if not. JG does not think and execute the O quickly enough. He has shown zero pocket awareness in two seasons now. Nice guy who has a pretty pass. Chryst will bring a different style of O that eats clock. He is a rental who is strong and mobile enough to survive the next 4 games against top D's. Unlike JG, he might even check out of plays that are doomed when he counts the number of defenders in the box or sees the blitz coming.

The only real answers are to flip the roster and hope the coaches get up to speed. The SEC takes no prisoners. I hope the rest of your days go better than last night.

I mean Penn State only was down like 2 seasons after what they went through.

It’s been 10 years. There are no words. Hell my give a damn is busted.

Yup. Penn St. was as close to pulling a SMU as you can get and they made it back. They’re good. And fun to watch. And Tennessee, with all of this money, tradition, resources, history, and pride can’t get back?

It’s flat-out amazing. I cannot explain it.

Something I thought was pretty bad was when early in the first after JG got drilled a couple of time and fumbled, we come out the next drive and looked to have called two straight QB runs for zero/negative gain.

Maybe the worst called series I can remember. 2 QB draws, a penalty, and then an obvious screen that Florida picks off. Horrid

How do you adjust with this bunch of players?

What adjustment can you make with guys who can't secure a ball, block, tackle, cover etc etc etc..?

You certainly can’t run 26 times on first down. We were successful with medium passes in the first half, yet they didn’t want to call it. I agree with a post from last night that Kiffin would have called a game that would have scored 35 on that defense.
