That pope fumble was the dagger. I lost all hope when we did that. It just proved that it wasn’t our night. It was such a ridiculous swing of emotion for me. Nerves of such a presnap play, angst when the ball was snap and it looked like nothing was there, then elation as a wide open receiver is running down the field. Then.... the touchback.

I try and tell my kids to not be a sore loser and that “it’s just a game”, but they saw me yelling at my tv when that happened. Just embarrassing.
Mine saw me lose my mind there too. Had to ‘splain after the game. He was concerned for my wellbeing

Did you guys watch the same coaching search in 2017 that I did??

No one wanted the job!

The idea that UT can throw money at an elite coach and win big early went down in flames last November. This is as good as it gets.

Buckle up and get used to it.

Games like that make you wonder if they hurt recruiting, yet in the same instance, how can any kid watch that game and not see the potential to play early and often?

If I told you ahead of time that Tennessee wouldn’t punt till mid 3rd quarter, tou could have never imagined how that was going to end up

For real. However the announcers kept saying that was the worst first half of football they had seen. I’ve seen plenty of halves of football that looked that bad from Tennessee in the last ten years. 6 turnovers wasn’t even a record - we set that with 7 two years ago at A&M.

Western Kentucky had an incredible run of turnovers against us... like 4 in 6 plays

On the first turnover, was Jordan supposed to pick up the DE? He went to help Smith and that guy came in unabated. It set the tone for the whole game, IMO.

While reading through some of these posts, it’s about time for us to give a gitshirt to some of these no good fans. I didn’t agree with every call Pruitt made but it’s hard to win when you give up a short field for 4 drives.

Weird, Ppl we’re calling already calling Mehlan CBJ 2.0 after the UK loss 😬

Lol but to be serious, there’s still a lot of coaching errors. Not playing to our (very few) strengths shows that. Having massive amounts of turnovers and mistakes does too. Is that last part bcuz of CBJ? Partly but not all
turnovers aren't on coaching. protecting the football isnt some hidden science at this level.

I set the blame at the players for the way this loss went. There was no leadership, no focus and a mental collapse that was a trainwreck to watch. Coaches tried to get them on the right path and one refused to go in. These kids dont deserve a full stadium.

Gotta place some blame on coaching. I can live with the defensive performance for the most part because they were put in bad situations pretty much from the get go (and low key nobody is even mentioning how ridiculous they were with the holding on a few of their chunk plays).

But the offensive gameplanning and playcalling has been pretty poor thus far this season. Our offense shouldn’t be world beaters, but overly predictable playcalling has hurt us badly at times. I haven’t seen the offense do a good job putting guys in a position to succeed yet. Some of the personnel decisions have been head scratchers, too.

For the life of me, I can’t understand why our offensive staffcant just accept that our OL is never gonna be successful if we put them in situations where the defense knows what’s coming. We’ve gotta work the short game a bit more passing and change up our tendencies on 1st and 2nd down.
agree with all this.

it was like we were trying to punish the offense with the way we called plays. we ran right in to 8 and 9 man boxes and did't blink.

i said last week that the vanilla play calling was the staff figuring "us" out. personnel packages, what we do, don't do, well etc....and that we should see changes in the play calling based on game planning, match up advantages etc....i didn't see any evidence of that last night.

This was demoralizing.

‘98 team on hand, dozen of America’s best players. Nothing could have been worse. Different coach, different players, same UF team comes in with more spunk, more swag than TN.

I should have trusted my instincts after WVU. I should have listened to my gut when we managed 24 against UTEP. Hiding JG, holding something back... that has literally never been a truth.

Pruitt isn’t a circle-the-wagons, boost morale sort of coach so these next few weeks are going to be tough to stomach. He’s used to sending out alpha players, self-starters, elite talent to execute his gameplan. I honestly don’t know how the older, jaded players are going to react.

About Austin Pope. I run 5 miles a day and I’m about to turn 37. This young man is a college athlete who has trained all offseason etc and he had a 50 yard sprint and he looked like he was going to fall over from being gassed after that play. After he caught it I couldn’t believe how slow he was and then on top of that how a tight end tries to jump over a db instead of just lowering his shoulder and getting whatever yards he can. He wanted to score I get it but gracious his hands were on his hips afterward like he had just finished a 5k.

Well the defense does look to be improving game by game. There's that small wonder.
yeah, and i think had we not giftwraped 23 points to start the game, the defense would have had a fighting chance. i do think they're playing better. i don't think they're all that great though.

the thing that stood out to me, and continues to stand out, is how we get whupped up front. we are not good on the line of scrimmage. at all. DL is ahead of the O line.

I am trying very hard not to check out for the rest of the season. We have some players who still leave everything out there and who are doing their best during the game and in practice. It's tough, though. I know that we will improve, but, at this point, I don't think it will be that much. I am ready for basketball.

Pruitt and his staff might ultimately succeed here, but I haven’t seen any improvement in 3 games. Nor does this team look better than it did 10 months ago. In a lot of ways it looks worse.

These next two months are going to be hell. If we can’t keep adding to the recruiting class then we know we’re in trouble.

I remember in high school I’d look so slow on tape when I’d be going full speed on the field. I think we are just used to watching skill players that run at least a 4.5-4.6.

Pope probably runs a 4.8-4.9 and a DB had an angle on him. That being said, I feel constantly gaslit by the VQ guys. They would mention how athletic Pope is and stories on how he’d hurdle guys in practice. After hearing that I expected...more.
