He interviewed for the job and they chose Moorhead over him. It’s pretty simple.

You have no clue. There is actually a MSU site that had reported Pruitt was offered the job although the Clarion Ledger said he had not been. But the article did say that he was becoming a candidate at UT. You know as much as anyone else.

Helton didn’t give him enough chances to yesterday. There were at least three 3rd and short/medium where we tried to run instead of pass. If we covert two of them the game may have gone much differently. Especially the one where we were down 10-7 and driving
Next two games should pass first run second. Give the banged up RBs time to recover and build on JG's confidence.

The thing with JG is that he’s good, but he’s not going to go win a game for you. He has 1 win as a starter? I watch him play, and I’m impressed. However, at the end of the game I just feel like he’s never done enough to get us a W

He won't lose us a game either. He doesnt throw INTs. It's the OL that's the problem

Watching the Jeremy Pruitt show and he's pointing out where players screwed up. So far Tim Jordan has missed 2 A gap holes bouncing outside instead, Richmond blocked a guy left instead of right, Flowers knocked a pass down instead of catching it, and I think he said Bumphus screwed up his blocking assignment on our first goal to go series.

Guys don't forget, we've got talent, we've got want to, we're working on know how. Unless we're going to say Pruitt is FOS that's where we're at. He said we're 10 times better now than when he first got here. He also said most of our guys are totally bought in, some are on the fence, and a few may never buy in.

We were screwing up blocking assgnments and weren't wrapping up tackling. Twice when we brought pressure Grier threw TDs. Jeremy said both Warrior (KO return) and Jordan need to get better at making one man miss when we have hat on hat with all the other guys

.We missed a number of turnover opportunities. Jordan screwed up a pass pattern. Our WRs need to get into the endzone because we don't need 2 yard passes at the goal line.

Jeremy watched the film on the way to the airport and told the team on the plane when they watched the tape they would be sick. I hope he's right.

A 5-7 record this year and 7-5 next year will cause season ticket sales to plunge. UT was begging some donors to renew this year and are already discounting tickets to fill the stadium. If it's another major multi-year rebuild, many long-time fans will watch it from home.
Recruiting well can fix that. Top 10 class will give many hope.

millst987 why are you posting so much today? It feels like you're enjoying the misery. Likely more than if we had won the game. We're all aware that yesterday didn't go well and that it's going to take longer to rebuild than we had hoped. Maybe take a couple laps and share the misery offline with yourself.

I’m gonna make it a point to tamp down expectations from now on, even if it gets me labeled a negavol. Some of you people were irrational with your expectations of this game, and now you are making this board a miserable place.

I’m really surprised at the negative nancys today. We got railroaded mostly because our defense brought inconsistent pressure and our DBs were bad.

We won’t see a better offense this year. Missouri, Auburn, and Bama are close so go ahead and put those down as very unlikely competitive.

However, Florida and South Carolina are going to be winnable. We will beat both Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

Play calling was very good outside of a few plays here and there.

Offensive line started to find their nuts. They will get better too. Skill positions we’re good to go.

I mean, y’all were lying to yourselves calling this an 8-9 win team. We have a shot to do exactly what’s expected - make a bowl

IDT the 5-7 finish many are predicting and a Top 10 class go hand-in-hand. To close with the elite recruits we want, I think we need to show more competitiveness and finish with a better W-L record.

We're seeing the pattern in other sports-- younger fans aren't as loyal and financially generous as older, long-time donors. Legacy donations are slipping. The torch isn't being passed.

Moral victory?
There's been even balance discussion of where we improved and where we sucked more than we thought.
Your posts sound like you're pissed off that people admit we improved anywhere. Maybe that's not your intention but that is definitely how you come off sounding.

Who's been talking moral victories since the loss yesterday? Haven't see that. Yes, there were some positives that happened yesterday, is that not okay to talk about? JG looked good enough to be the QB, Tim Jordan looked like John Kelly, and the WR's caught the ball well. The bad...the OL started bad but got better, the DE's were bad which exposed a young secondary having to guard a very good WR core being thrown the ball by a heisman candidate QB. Secondary has talent but need help from the DE's and they got zero help yesterday.

Like I've said all morning, it starts with the DL, specifically the DE's. MUST get to the QB and they didn't. Grier was in the zone because he didn't have to worry about our awful pass rush. Any team that has a good QB and WR's has to be licking their chops right now if Tennessee is on the schedule. Hopefully they find a way to rush the passer or we're going to struggle to make a bowl. That's today's reality. But I do think we'll get better as the season goes on, too many hungry players and good coaches on this staff. Going to take time. More time than we want to admit.

If you have reasonable expectations, that don't include winning between 7 and 9, you'll inevitably be labeled a "negavol".

For real lol. We lost 40-14 and we have folks on here saying "well if this didn't happen, and that didn't happen, and we did this" well, the game would have been closer. Get out of town with that trash. We got smoked, own it.

I read a stat that stunned me the other day. The last time Tennessee had less than 4 losses in a season was 14 years ago.

14 years. Would have been unthinkable to lose 4 games in the 90’s. Let alone for a decade and a half.

I’m 24 so I don’t really remember the 90’s. My first real memories are of the ‘01 season. And I can attest with firsthand knowledge that people my age and younger do not expect Tennessee to be good or to be competitive. We’re largely a laughing stock in that demographic.

What sucks is that I think there's a very good chance we'll be sitting here in November 2019 with half the fanbase thinking Pruitt is the guy and the other half wanting him gone or thinking he's another churn and burn coach because of a similar trajectory as Jones: 5-7 or 6-6 in year one and 6-6 or 7-5 in year two.

We just can't seem to pull ahead in talent levels long enough for a guy to get fired and the next guy to take over with something halfway decent to work with to either hit the ground running or make that all-important leap in year two. Even Kiffin would have been kinda screwed if he stayed until 2010, and he was following a 150+ win Hall of Fame coach.

The WVU O-coordinator had it right. Individual pieces aren't going to get us there. It's a team game. I know we may have tired of the phrase "complementary football" but that's what it will take. Any individual development is only significant in this context. That's why I suggested there was a tinge of the "moral victory" rationalization going down in here.

Recruiting at a high level during a 5-7, 6-6 season is a huge challenge. I guess we're about to see how well of a salesman Coach Pruitt is.

We are seeing a loss in fans. LWSVOL says he's done. I'm sure there are many like him.

That's true. This team lacks leadership. It's a hodgepodge collection of guys who saw some bright spots/an improving team under Jones, guys who saw the program decline under Jones, and newbies who were sold on Pruitt's defensive prowess and ability to put guys in the NFL. No cohesiveness. No true player leadership. Gonna take a while to build that culture.

Pruitt did make a good point about only having 5 seniors on the team that play. We should be much improved next year but the DL will likely be a problem again.

Look, this season is probably going to be pretty damn bad. But I think we can all agree we have a staff around Pruitt with a proven record in the SEC.

THE most important thing is to lock up a top 12-15 recruiting class this year and we will be in decent enough shape.
