Really random thought here but i was thinking of the best teams that had bad years here.

Two that stick out to me was the 05 team (fulmers first losing season). The team was great defensively but just couldn’t find it on offense.

And

Dooleys last year where basically every offensive player was on a NFL roster at some point and we score like 35+ in 4 road games and lose. We are also damn good special teams wise that year.

Who do you all think would win?
Had that 05 team been competent on offense we very well could have won the league that year. Think we came in preseasont #3 that year. That Chief defense was mean.

What did he say about Florida?
"Dan Mullen returns to Florida. Can he fix what has been a dismal offense for much of the last decade? Mullen’s history drives optimism, and that will start with a shaky QB picture: Redshirt sophomore Feleipe Franks has a big arm but struggles with decision-making. He may be the best option among speedy four-star freshman Emory Jones and redshirt sophomore Kyle Trask. It helps that Martez Ivey and a veteran O-line is back. There’s also a solid group of receivers, with Ole Miss transfer Van Jefferson a potential impact guy. The defense, which has been terrific, probably won’t be close to what it was when it carried this program for much of the past decade."
7-5
-Feldman

"At Tennessee, new coach Jeremy Pruitt faces a long road back from last year’s 0-8 disaster. He’s got some dudes on defense, like DE Jonathan Kongbo and LB Darrin Kirkland Jr., to engineer a turnaround there, but the Vols’ transition to becoming a physical, pro-style offense is going to take time."
5-7
-Mandel

Yeah idk. They throw 7 or 8 million his way and I bet he would. Saban is the better coach, but it's not by a very wide margin IMO.

With all these reports, scandals, player misconduct etc its beginning to really water down that theory that urban “wanted to get away from saban”. I think he just “let the sh!t creep in” and literally lost control of the program.

Has anyone read reports referencing the team's psyche after last year and what the staff is doing to overcome that? Know is was made mention of on here, that it's a thing, and at least one coach has addressed it in an interview. But, what is the staff actively doing to boost confidence and change that mindset?

My impression of Pruitt and Co. is they demand toughness, especially mental toughness. He's refreshingly old school like that. WV could be a big deal for this reason, so too could the UF game. If we play UGA close, then I see us upsetting AU. For that reason the Bama game is close also. I can see us starting the season at 5-2, because of mental capacity. We have the talent. The team lacked fortitude last year (and our best players weren't on the field, i.e Jumper and injuries).

How we lose to Bama will determine if we lose to USCe, but we'll be really banged up going into that game. If we lose badly to USCe, then we'll drop a fourth game, but not sure to which team. I'm going to say either an 8-4 season or a 5-7 season.

Exactly. They were ok in 2016 but I thought average in 2017. If they can’t establish run or they turn the ball over, they’re in trouble. I don’t feel they can pass themselves from behind regardless of the WR’s that transferred there.

They are definitely going to have growing pains this year. If the media thinks we will then they certainly will. I believe Mullen will take longer to set up his sort of philosophy than Pruitt will. Pruitt wants to win now. Mullen comes off as more "it's about the process" type of coach.

Hines was a great route runner tho. It showed when he was slow and older and was still creating a ton of separation. It sounds crazy but Jennings is a tight end trapped in a WRs body. If he was 245 he would be awesome like Jordan reed. Bc he is good at using his body to seal out the defender.

Why he should've been a safety from day 1. Butch screwed the pooch again.

Everybody will think Pruitt is God is we start 5-2

Yeah I think that's exactly what happened at Florida. He wasn't running from Saban. The last time Urban went up against him his team dominated in literally every facet of the game. Wasn't like it was some fluky win. They lined up and put it on Alabama. Saban and Meyer are in a class by themselves, with Saban being the better coach, just not by that much IMO.

I just can’t for the life of me understand the 5-7 talk. We are not devoid of talent.

We are more talented than 7 teams on our schedule (three scrubs, SC, Vandy, Ky, and Missouri).

We are equally as talented as West Virginia and Florida. I’m not saying we win all these games but 4-8 was a product of a coach who didn’t want to be here after Vandy 2016 not a team that needed a complete rebuild.

I also think this talent deficit is overblown. We have the same talent as a Florida for example and some are picking them as a 10 win team. It’s just a matter of narrative.

Now my season prediction is 7-5 because the schedule sets up brutally but I don’t think we’re destined to be 6-6 at best because “Kirby and Saban did in their first years with better talent”. What they did has no correlation with our 2018 season

All day long.

From a recruiting standpoint, and fpi, we are way more talented than WVU. Someone several posts back, ChattVol probably, did a comparison of our top 40 players to theirs, and it was quite a difference.

It's not a joke.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -
Fan Day with the Mountaineer football team set for tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. will be postponed and rescheduled if a later date becomes available.

Five cases of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease have been identified within the program. Hand, foot and mouth is a mild but highly contagious viral infection that is very common among children but can spread to adults. The virus usually goes away on its own in a period of less than a week, and there is no specific treatment, just steps to ease the symptoms.
