You have a stated preference and feel compelled to contentiously defend it. I'm not compelled to debate, because I don't care who gets the job. I just want the best QB to start, and I think the coaches are in the best position to make the right decision. JG, Chryst, McBride, Shrout, Harris, a walk-on we've never heard of-- play the guy who can give us the wins.

I agree IF Chryst really is the best option by far, and without question that is fine with me. But I don't have blind faith in these coaches yet, maybe you do, but I don't. They very well can be wrong. It could be Helton still has PAC10 bias that is clouding his judgement at the moment. He has seen Chryst.

I see a guy that hasn't individually accomplished any more than JG, and with better coaches, a better OL, better RBs, and a overall better team and against weaker competition, and has less potential.

Chryst sucked at Stanford that is why he is here, and it is not like he was beat out by some world beater..

So color me extremely skeptical of Chryst starting over JG..IF..that is the decision.

You would prefer a certain other debate?

Funny how we make every excuse for JG's mediocre play, but insist that the other guy can't improve, suggesting that the staff doesn't know any better, even though they watch these guys daily. Y'all funny.

I'm gonna trust them until it is clear we shouldn't.

I trust them, but not blindly. Chryst has had YEARS to develop with a better team and better coaches around him, but now the light is going off? That would be great, but I'm not buying it till I see it.

You know what would really be great to me though?..If our talented soph QB who has a had horseisht coaching, horseisht blocking, and barely meh everything else, develops and plays big, and wins big the next two to three years..that would be really awesome

Not suggesting blind trust, but it's very hard to judge a decision that hasn't been made yet.

And I completely agree, I would rather see JG win it.

Ahh heck I'm just yappin about this because it was rumored that the coaches are already pointed that direction..

If that is true, then they haven't even given JG a real chance..I mean dang fall practice hasn't even started yet.

I hope the kid wins it, and I hope he gets every real chance to.

On VQ podcast Simonton saying dead period coming in July and many kids around the country likely to make decisions. Said that Hill, Burrell, Fields and Akporoghene are all possibilities for decisions in July and Vols in a good spot with all 4.

He has accomplished way more than JG and the pac12 is a very good conference. Outside of AL and GA last year not sure you can make a great case for the schedule JG played being better. I’d say weaker. His numbers against those 2 were so bad not sure how it helps your case that he played them and did absolutely nothing.

2016 he led a team to 10-3. 12th in the country. JG lead a team to 4-8..

I’m not a JG hater but to say he and Chryst have had similar careers is laughable

Both guys have had adversity. One is injury/depth chart and the other is a radioactive team/system/coaches. Looking at the situations, JG has had to overcome more.

Best case scenario is that Chryst pushes JG to become the star of the team. More realistically, I expect an injury this season and both will play significant minutes and be asked to lead the team to key victories.

"Individually" ..I have used that caveat already...The Stanford TEAM he was on accomplished more, but not because of him.

I can see three of those. Something is up with Fields.

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say they’ve had similar careers. If anything they’re as different as night and day. Only similarity I see is that both play the QB position.

I’ve been out of pocket this week. Don’t recognize the last dude.

Do you guys really not understand individual stats? Chrysts aren't that much, if any better..while he played on a MUCH better team, with MUCH better OL, better coaching and better everything else around him...How is that so hard to get through your heads? I have said the exact same thing over and over again and yet you keep pointing out TEAM accomplishments?..I mean come on..I don't give a dang if he had went 13-0..HIS..individual play was below mediocre..that is why he is here, and not there.

Listen..I'm glad we got him because he is surely better than McBride and a true freshman who needs a few years of work to be ready.

He did. He did specify individually. But especially at QB I don’t see how wins doesn’t matter. It’s the leader of the team and if you do what it takes for the team to win that is absolutely a skill set

He also said the pc12 sucks. It doesn’t

Others make many excuses for JG that butch sucked. I never liked his offense but it’s undeniable that the year befores offense was extremely explosive. It also was explosive w AK out and JK in. It also didn’t have a great line. The main doffernce? Dobbs vs JG

I’m rooting for JG but tired of the avalanche of excuses for him and then people acting like leading a team to 10-3 and 12th in the country is mediocre. If that’s mediocre then I’d be down for some mediocrity over the next few years

'19 FL OL Chris Akporoghene

4star monster OL from Seymour, TN but transferred to IMG in January and wanted a UT offer but didn't have one until he camped last week. He balled out at camp, staff is pushing for him, he was set to commit in July and now sounds like UT is likely the destination.

Real question: how many games did Chryst and JG have over 150 yrds in the air?
