Chryst winning the job is a nightmare scenario IMO. He’s already proven to be incredibly mediocre (if not bad) and will be here for a year. JG will surely transfer if he doesn’t get the job which will leave us with McBride, shrout, and whoever we get in 2019.

Roll with JG and let him develop. He’s only a RS sophomore. He can’t get better under pressure until he gets experience in those situations.
See...now we can be friends again 😁 This scenario is so obvious to me also. Chrysts experience at sucking against Pac 10 defenses is no plus to me.

On the other hand though if you don’t think JG is going to develop into the qb to take the team where it needs to go, then starting Chryst makes it very clear to every qb recruit that the job is open for them to step into

I really think this is backwards thinking by the coaches. Imo if it's close then JG has to start. It's on Chryst to be hands down above to win the job because of the future implications

I completely agree with this.

Excellent point.

JG only gets the nod as the starter in a tie breaking situation if the staff feels he can be the future

Going off? I'm just really disagreeing with you, and just because guys get paid a lot of money don't mean they aren't wrong sometimes, and sometimes a lot..even the best.

Jeez..calm down. I'm just conversatin..

You have a stated preference and feel compelled to contentiously defend it. I'm not compelled to debate, because I don't care who gets the job. I just want the best QB to start, and I think the coaches are in the best position to make the right decision. JG, Chryst, McBride, Shrout, Harris, a walk-on we've never heard of-- play the guy who can give us the wins.

Too bad every QB commits in the spring. If we land Taulia, then we’ll be alright, but that’s far from a sure thing

Funny how we make every excuse for JG's mediocre play, but insist that the other guy can't improve, suggesting that the staff doesn't know any better, even though they watch these guys daily. Y'all funny.

I'm gonna trust them until it is clear we shouldn't.

For those that don't follow closely there are 4 teams left in college baseball. 3 of them from the SEC. Baseball might be the conferences strongest sport

I would love to see Mississippi State or Arkansas win. Florida can go **** themselves.

I'm not trying to start an argument here but the difference being coached at quarterback by David Shaw and Butch Jones is light years apart. The coaching staff last year was horrendous. JG also played behind a horribly coached o-line, on of the worst coached I can remember.

Look, I don't care who wins the job as long as it is the best fit for the team but overlooking what JG went through last year is not the best argument.

It's still an issue of context. Crompton sucked under a OC who was successful elsewhere, but was then successful under Kiffin. Peterman was dreadful under Butch (even with an NFL QB coach) but then blew up at Pitt.

Imagine if Butch had never played Peterman and then he transferred to Pitt. This board would have lost its mind over the belief that Butch was too stupid to play him. But then UF. Of course after seeing how well he did at Pitt, we are certain that he just wasn't well coached, although Worley was decently serviceable if he had more than 1.3 seconds to throw.

I'm just suggesting that armchair coaches don't see any day to day performance, and at best can infer future results from the past, even though there are many examples of how context greatly affects both past and present.

Jones' knowledge of the QB position was probably very low, to be a head coach on this level. Didn't help matters that he chose to go without a QB coach for his first 4 years, and in his 5th year, he decides to hire the running backs coach at Utah State. What a buffoon he was.

Butch got extremely lucky to inherit Dan LeFevour from Brian Kelly and to be forced into playing Josh Dobbs.

I just cannot get over what a buffoon coach he was. I knew he probably wasn't going to be that good after his third year, but I had no idea how bad at his job he really was.

What is making y'all think chryst is better than jg. He had worse stats in a better system, with a better o-line, against competition that his team typically outclassed by a wide margin

Tifwiw but i have a friend who does video prep for Cal (was a manager here when Wilcox was the DC) and he told me that chryst looked like a total different player before his acl injury and then after. He said the year after they didn’t even bother spying chryst at all like they did the year before.

I know one thing the dude is impressive as hell size wise. Like white cam newton big.

Is he moving better now?

Definitely agree with both these ideas. Only problem is we don’t have a QB committed yet. So if we go into the season without a committed QB what difference would it make.

Another Chryst/JG debate..

Aw man it would be nice to have a big QB that the defense has to respect the run against.

At least we are talking real football now.

Chryst was brought in for good reasons. There is every reason to believe JG has good upside physically. There is also every reason to believe he may not have taken advantage of his opportunity enough and may not fit the offensive system that Helton is installing as well as Chryst. Regardless of accuracy Chryst has been at it longer and was a quick thinker in games. Being fully healthy now has to help him. JG did not prove to be quick thinker and read D's. Maybe he gets there with more development. But I would think Helton has a good handle on where he is and what he is capable of doing.
