Just gotta keep the emotions in check this year. It could be a rough one.

so much easier said than done.:eek:lol:

Thanks. How’s FSU’s recruiting going?

from swanson in the mike morris thread:

From a poster on VQ...
Quote:
heard today that Willie T told him to not come to their spring game. Has to be a good look for us. His father is not happy.
Guess Taggart wasn't happy that Morris visited UT.

agreed. the O line is still the biggest bugaboo, in that it's gonna probably require some youth to contribute the next two years for sure.

but you could maybe make a case where the 2019 team could be pretty good, depending on how a few things shake out. i'm not gonna put the cart before the horse though.

really hoping/wanting to enjoy the ride back up.

Same. I just want to enjoy the season and be hopeful for the future.

I recall suggesting Crosby to OL before spring and had some jump on me for suggesting it. I wasn't suggesting he would bust at DL just was thinking the kid was a big body we don't have one Ol who is actually pretty athletic for his size as shown in his highlights playing RB. good to see he is open to it.

If Crosby can learn the position quickly that could be yuge for our OL depth.

i'm usually not for robbing peter to pay paul. but, i agree. i'm not convinced he finds a home on the DL, and it sounds like he was interested in moving last year.

he's big, strong, and if he can learn it....make it happen.

Does anyone know when a decision will be made on the proposed new redshirt rule...and when it would go into effect? That will be valuable for player development and evaluation.

Hopefully guys like Gooden and Emerson will be good on the DL and I still think Bain can contribute. Potential depth on the DL is in better shape than OL depth imo.

So Hyams said he thinks Phillips is around 260. Is that right? He needs to be 275+ I think.

do tell...what rule is that?

A player could participate in up to four games...any games...and retain their redshirt.

It sounds like the new redshirt rule is going to pass - FootballScoop

Edit: Found an article dated today in the Baton Rouge Advocate that says the vote is next week. Ironically, the backdrop of the story goes into the disgust Nick Saban felt when he had to insert Travis Daniels, due to injuries to several other players, into the 2001 SEC Championship game in the third quarter, for his first action of the planned-redshirt year.

oh,i totally agree on the DL depth. i think simply going to a 3 man front, it increased the #'s for sure. not sure we have exactly the right body types for each position in a 3 man front, but the #'s are certainly better.

and i have no idea about Phillips, but i would tend to agree. you don't want those ends to be huge, but 260 is a tad light to go take on two OL.

i'm a big steeler fan, and they've run the 34 for a long time....and when you have the right personnel, that defense can be devastating. when you don't, and you get pushed around up front, and the LB's can't work, it's a struggle....you have to be able to rotate those DLmen. so i'd expect anyone that's capable, will see the field up front.

To me it all comes down to a few positions.

1 OL
2 QB
3 DL

Also we need Helton to be good. That’s a big key and a big question mark.

We could be much improved everywhere else but if we don’t get good play from those 3 listed above we are in trouble. And those are our biggest question marks to me.

I would have Injuries or S&C in there as well. Coaching aside, injuries have killed us the past 2 years. We have a new staff with a completely different approach to practices and game prep. We also have a new S&C staff with a different approach to S&C. There are several other position groups that could be a worry if we don’t have guys healthy, especially key playmakers.

and we still have several key guys coming off injury as well.....so yeah, injury bug is a big time question mark.:crossfingers:
