Maybe. I would argue that by virtue of making a prediction, specifically one that's, "on the record," you're inherently hoping it comes true. Why else would you make the prediction? The only reason to put it on the record (I cringe every time I write that, is there a VN stenographer I'm not aware of?) is so that, presumably, it can be referenced later - the only reason I can think someone would want to reference a prediction at a later date is to gloat about their ability to predict an outcome.

Can you outline a scenario where that prediction, made in that manner, doesn't indicate a desire to be correct?

He seems to enjoy being a smug POS, it's been his shtick as long as I can remember.

This is ridiculous. People predict things all the time that they hope will not happen.

On another note, everything you post on VN is..."On the record" unless you go back and edit it. Quit acting like you are a superfan because you pump that sunshine so hard. None of us want the team to suck. I have been a loyal Tennessee fan thick and thin. My blood is just as orange as anybodys.

"I hope you don't ever get herpes, but you probably will."

See how off putting that is? Predicting something bad, no matter how likely it is, makes you sound like a jerk. (I'm not saying you personally are more likely to get herpes than any other person, just that 1 in 5 people have it, so the odds are pretty good).

Pump that shine..

The players make sure the recruits pay 5 points a visit lol.

They have Muschamp, TRob, Lance Thompson, and Bryan McClendon. All elite recruiters. Here’s the thing though: the stuff our fans are saying about our recruiting is the exact same thing people here in Columbia were saying about Muschamp’s recruiting. They missed on so many 4 and 5 stars these past few years (Xavier Thomas, josh belk, Channing tindall, the list goes on and on).

BUT it hasn’t mattered too much. You know why? Because Muschamp and crew, just like Pruitt and our staff, know how to evaluate and develop talent. Butch didn’t have a damn clue how to do that. I mean the guy was so stupid that he kept Alvin MFing Kamara on the bench. Think of how stupid someone has to be to do that.

I am very confident we are going to see the same thing here at Tennessee. Just need to be patient. The kids were are signing are legit football players in my opinion. I’m excited about a lot of the players in the 2018 class and this 2019 already looks really good and has the potential to be top 10

Well, you answered my question pretty dang well. Those are 4 elite recruiters and I still wish we had poached McClendon. Muschamp has, unfortunately, forced me to respect him. South Carolina is actually the team that I want Tennessee to learn a bit from. They’re a scrappy, tough team even though they lack elite talent. We’ve been the opposite. A SOFT, but talented team of underachievers.

Dude, this is basic human intelligence 101 that a middle schooler would easily know and see the fallacy in your premise. I really truly don't believe you're that dense; I think you're being obstinate because you realize you're wrong but don't want to admit it.

Think about it. You really think the ONLY reason someone makes a prediction is because they hope they'll be right? No one EVER makes a prediction for something they hope won't happen? No one predicts unfortunate events? That's what your premise is based on. See how absurd it is?

I happen to agree with his premise. There are plenty of people who would rather be right about winning 5 than be wrong and have us win 7 or 8.

The argument that a prediction = what someone hopes will happen is one of the stupidest I’ve seen on here.

No logical person really believes that.

Yeah..that's because they are fans of other teams.

I guarantee you they're not. I don't you're one of those people, for the record. I believe that you hope you're wrong and that we out-perform most people's expectations here. Except for Ron's expectations, we can't out-perform 15-0 :)

“I would be shocked if we win more than 7 games”

“We aren’t winning more than 7 games. Put that on record”

You don’t see the difference in those two statements? Especially given the source?

Many times it isn’t what you say, it’s how you say it, that makes a difference

I can not imagine how any Volunteer fan could hope to lose any game. I hope we win them all.

Oh come on..Chief is a jassack sometimes, but he doesn't want to lose to be proven right.
