Absolutely but for some reason if you talk about race as something that we created for cultural reasons (and justifying slavery was a major reason for that construction) people freak out. It doesn't matter what color the person is many will swear up and down that race is a real thing rather than something we created to separate people and assign social roles. But it's the same as gender - we assigned roles to people and created gender. But then again a lot of people still don't know the difference between gender and sex.

I think a lot of people just don't want to take the time to explore these complex issues.

Anthropologists are always on the lookout for scientific racism. Unfortunately, your field was the playground for European scientists trying to "prove" the concept of race and racial superiority and Americans who came up with notion of breeding better offspring. From human zoos to "Übermenschen", the story of scientific racism (and sexism for that matter) begins with the notion that one color is superior to another.

Genetic studies have absolutely destroyed the entire concept of race but telling the average person (or student) that there's no such thing as race will get you stupid looks and arguments despite DNA evidence until finally it sinks in.

Anyhoo, the other half was in cultural anthropology so I know exactly what you're reacting to. lol. :)

Yeah, we don’t exactly have the moral high ground or anything. When I posted that Stephen Jay Gould link I was like, “yeah, I probably came off as a pretentious jerk in the one place where I can go talk football with a bunch of people who just wanna talk football.” My apologies, everyone.

How’d that car thing shake out?

You will. It will happen. Getting your career off the ground is important also. I read a lot in here and saw the conversation about you getting your commercial pilot license. I believe you will do great. My dad was a 3 mil miler with Delta and I had over 500,000 with Delta. We both flew with several different airlines all over the world.

That's awesome. Definitely got a while before I get there haha.

But that's exactly what I keep telling myself is to just focus on getting my career started & worry about helping others before myself, then the girl I'm supposed to marry will come along.

What I have learned about having a successful marriage, always strive to make my wife's happiness and success before me. She is my number one priority above myself. 30 yrs later I can say it has worked well for both of us. Cause she has the same attitude toward me. Not perfect by all means but we love doing everything together.

Don’t know how old you are, but I moved to Dallas for work after a failed relationship with nothing more than a car(my parents paid for) and a tv.

Worked my ass off for the next 5ish years Monday through Saturday with overtime. Then met my wife, career moves started happening, and it all became worth it.

It’ll happen.

4-5 times a week with a gorgeous wife. You?

BTW just to clear the air and hopefully stop the tangent, I am all for you if you decide to have kids. Love them and raise them to the best of your ability. It's just never been for me. I have reasons but they are mine and I will not get into them. Carry on and GBO!

If this would have been your first post, then people probably would have let you be. It's totally ok with me if you choose not to have them and the reasons are definitely none of my business.

I didn't take it that people were saying things about their family and having children was meant to be toward Bignewt. I respect his not wanting kids and like he said, he has his reason. I just took all the conversation from those who have kids was just a proud conversation of what their kids mean to them. As far as Bignewt, nothing but respect and hope things go well from as my Vol Bro.!

In other news, Bama hired Mike Locksley instead of Hugh Freeze. Although that doesn't prevent them from hiring Freeze for a "quality control" position. Seems to be what Saban does for former head coaches rehabbing from addictions.

Totally respect the opinion, but they are 16-2 ranked top 10. Big wins, too. Might be 16-3 after this weekend, but we have the team to make it to the Final 4, so maybe don't be out?

I will follow the scores just not going to take time out to sit down and watch the entire game from beginning to end. First time I do all year and see two losses and Holly being a horrible coach again

Tee just got paid. And assured USC to have leverage whenever some other team comes a callin’’.

Look for him to be the hottest candidate for head coaching positions that never gets a head coaching position. Like that Schottenheimer kid who wet the bed at UGA and now struggles to find work.

I don't think you came across as pretentious. This thread has cool off-topic conversations all the time. It's like being in a pub and probably why I spend so much darn time here.

As for the car.... She's dead Jim. :cray: The insurance company totaled her (road damage they said). We get to keep her for salvage tho. I'm currently looking for a new vehicle but illness (flu/cold) and the freezing weather has slowed things down a bit. In the meantime, we got the old Mustang running again but I don't really trust it for anything more than short trips. It has a bad tire and no weenie wheel if it breaks down.
