Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

My opinion of Heup’s offense has somewhat eroded over the past 2 seasons. Last night really calmed my apprehensions. I don’t know if the team is good enough to return to the playoffs, but it looks like it’s going to be a fun year to watch.
It really comes down to QB play, IMO. What makes it more interesting, since his arrival at Tennessee, Heupel has handpicked two guys to run this offense, Milton and Nico. Neither has run it as well as the two he didn't handpick, Hooker, and now, Aguilar. I'm not saying that means anything, but I'm sure some will get up in arms just for commenting on it. My hope is Faison Brandon breaks that chain and lights up in this offense. It's more than just having the physical tools. Milton and Nico both are gifted physically. The true key is between the ears. The QB has to be able to process what he's seeing and react to it. Milton and Nico both struggled with that aspect.

To be fair, it wasn't all QB. Some was on poor WR play. In this offense, WRs need to be able to read the defense to run the correct routes. That seems to be better this year, thus far.

I agree. If he keeps playing like this and we go 10-2 or 11-1 he may be the favorite to win it.

I don't care about the Heisman after our history with it, but. . . if he's the leader at the end of the year, we're likely hosting a playoff game at the very least. . .

It's pretty amazing what Heupel continues to do here.
I just hope we get guys back and stay healthy..and they can't let that stupid loss do anything besides piss them off and enrage them to go out and maul evetryone in their path.

Bama, Okie, Arky and even Vandy are going to be really tough to win with our defense piddlepootin around like it is.

And Miss St is going to be a chore at night with all that freaking cacophony going on...and Shapen gives them a punches chance if he gets on a hot streak against our piddlepootin defense.

I don't mean to disparage our guys that are doing the best they can, it's nobodies fault that these injuries happened, but they are not very good right now, just very mediocre with too many huge weak spots.

Heupel is a great QB teacher...he can just see all that talent and he thinks he can make them great...he may figure out soon to look for guys that have shown the ability to see the field more than great physical ability. It's hard to really see in practice because it is structured...no live bullets whizzing by...and these guys are obviously practice Tarzans, but wilt under live fire.

Our D is going to get better. Moi and Hobbs appear likely by Miss St. And McCoy is expected to be back by Bama. Lots of young players that are only going to improve. Getting our 2 D lineman back will be huge. GBO!!!!!

I’m hoping they get Golesh. I don’t want him sniffing anywhere around UF’s program.
Greg McElroy talked about this some earlier. Said he doesn’t think Golesh would leave USF for Va Tech. I guess 8 million might change that but tbh I don’t buy they’re willing to spend that much. McElroy made it sound like he doesn’t think there will be a lot of interest in the Va Tech job. One name he brought up that would actually make a lot of sense is JMU coach, Chesney.

I think with the right coach, it could be brought back. The brand isn’t what it was during the Beamer days, but it’s still an appealing spot, IMO. In terms of a pathway to the playoffs, it’s not the worst gig out there. Basically beat FSU or Miami in the regular season OR lose to them in the conference title but win out the regular season. VT doesn’t always have to play them each year, and the rest of the ACC is garbage. So it’s very doable. That’s why, if I’m Butch 2.0 (aka Beamer), I’m not an automatic no. It’s a much easier path than SC. And as disgusting as it is for me to say this, he’s probably the only coach that could come in and immediately change the brand’s image.

He also talked about Beamer but more or less said he’d be surprised if it happened. Said Beamer has a better setup at USCjr, especially with NIL, and that the whole following in his father’s footsteps may not be that appealing. Not sure if you saw my edited post but McElroy mentioned Chesney at JMU as a more realistic option.

It. Is. Florida.

We do this every single year. Every. Year.

We talk about how good we’ve looked.
We talk about how bad they’ve looked.

And then the game kicks. And a lot people are shocked to see… Florida.
I wish I could dislike this post.

I don’t disagree, but that makes me dislike it more.

I’ll believe someone is coming back when I see it. McCoy was suppose to play against ETSU and Hobbs was originally going to be back by UGA. I don’t believe anything injury wise until I see them on the field this year.
