Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Agreed. But I'm talking about the future, not this year. I believe Hobbs, Moi, and McCoy are all possibly gone after this season.
Fair. I do like Hood/Redmond a lot at corner. Not worried at all there.

On the DL we’ll have Weathersby, Robinson, Utley, Dye, Campbell even if Hobbs leaves (which would surprise me). A couple depth guys wouldn’t hurt but I feel pretty good about that group.

FG wouldn't have been necessary if Heupel doesn't choose to go conservative on some of those drives, specifically the drive after the FF/TO where we ran it 3 times and kicked a FG.

Or maybe if the officials call Landon Humphries for the push off on that TD ....

Point being, there is blame to go around. I agree Max SHOULD have made the FG. But he's not solely to blame for losing.
In hindsight I think we pretty much deserved to lose for letting them march down the field and score 8 points. That's on Tim Banks. An 8 point lead at the end of the 4th quarter should be easily protected. I could feel the energy in the stadium change after that.

Ugh, what a heartbreaking loss.

Just to reflect...

2021 Pre-Season:
"Heupel's offense won't translate to the SEC" -> Breaks all kinds of records in 2021/2022.
"Heupel isn't a good recruiter" -> Best 3-year recruiting stretch since Fulmer.
"Heupel can't manage an SEC program" -> ESPN used to talk about him as a play-caller. Now they're hyping up Golesh because he "learned from Josh Heupel, one of the best program managers in the country."

Post 2022:
"Heupel can't have a good defense" -> Top 20 defense (2023). Top 5 defense (2024).

The entire time...
"Heupel's system can't score on athletic defenses like Georgia." -> 41 points yesterday.

I wanted yesterday really badly, but zooming out a bit, Heupel answered my last major question. He put up points against a Kirby Smart defense, and he did it with a quarterback (that nobody wanted) that's been in the system for just a couple months. He took them to overtime with 4 NFL players, and if Gilbert could've hit that kick the tone in here would've been very different.

The talent margin is getting narrower. Heupel is still the man.
This.

JMO, but we need to run strong on the line. We're at our best when we can rotate the DL with little to no drop off.

I also like Hood and Redmond, but we need more. The situation we faced this week shows that. McCoy and Gibson were out. Imagine if they were healthy for this game. We need more than 2 CBs ready to go.

I also am l liking what I see of Farooq, but we could really use a playmaking safety. Turrentine is just kind of there.

In defense, Humphries pushed Redmond off to catch that TD. It should have been OPI.

is there some sort of strange subculture where he is a z-list celebrity? Or is he just in his own universe and thinks he really is a popular rapper/personality?

Also did he really get popped for being a pedo?

And wasn't he banned from campus?
Well he shows up to the vol club tailgates so if he is banned someone ought to let those with authority know about it.

No we weren’t. Eason is a starter and he isn’t hurt. Bailey is a starter at SDE and slid in. Which he is big enough to play inside. Corners we were out but Hood is a stud. Truth is safety and linebacker play are what killed us yet again
Eason is great. Not sure he’s out there to start if Hobbs & Moi are both healthy, but he would play just as much. If you want to say “2 of 3” DTs are out, then fine. Bailey (as you admit) is a SDE - he’s not forced to slide in if our starters aren’t out, save for special packages.

Hood is great, too. But he’s not one of the top 2 CBs if McCoy & Gibson are healthy.

Having 4 of our best Defenders would have helped tremendously.

Hood and Redmond were ready to go. They didnt play too bad yesterday. Yes, Redmond got picked on a bit; but, all in all, he held his own. On the 4th down TD, he had pretty good coverage there...it took a perfect throw (I mean PERFECT), and a push-off, to beat him. He also should have had some help, imo. But, yeah...McCoy and Gibson play, along with the front-line guys, I believe we win...comfortably.

Stockton's other TD throw was the Branch screen. That was all Turrentine taking a horrendous...well, I'm not really sure what he was doing, tbh. Safety recruiting has got to pick up, imo. You're right, we are in desperate need of a S that can make plays, big-time plays.

LBs weren't the best yesterday, neither...and that includes Carter. No problem with Ben Bolton spelling our starters here and there; but, I have NO IDEA why that dude is on the field during crunch time. That one is beyond me.

Farroq is good at safety. I think Boo would make a helluva safety. Turrentine is just not a great quality SEC safety. He’s decent but not great.

There was more than 1 play on that drive. But yes I agree it should have been called. I think the DPI on us to start that drive really killed our momentum on defense.
So you saw two incorrect calls by Birmingham on that decisive drive, and they both went (incorrectly) against us. 🤔

It was a 9 play drive man. The penalty and no call sucked but it’s hard to point to such minor things in comparison to the dismantling of our defense by Georgia over the course of the entire game.

Stockton and their RBs burned our butts over the coals on the outside all day and especially on that drive. Our corners (well, at least one of them) were not athletic enough or experienced enough to stop it. Our linebackers would try to help outside at times and then we’d get the ball ran down our throat.

I really do hope we can get McCoy to play this year. If we had him and Hood on the field together there’s no way we lose that game.

This team has more than enough potential to go to the playoffs again and have more success this time around but if there’s a recipe to beat us Kirby just put it on full display. If we can get these injured guys back our ceiling is much higher.

Ty Redmond is extremely athletic and fast. He just doesn’t have the experience because he is after all a true freshman. Even on the last TD they scored, it took an uncalled push off by the UGA receiver, plus a perfect throw.

I don't disagree about Boo and Farooq...hoping they can be special. The jury is still out, imo. I want safeties that cause all sorts of problems in both the passing game and run game. I realize that Eric Berry's or Deon Grant's or Minkah Fitzpatrick's or Mark Barron's or Caleb Downs'...dudes like that...I realize those guys don't just grow on trees; but, I want guys on THAT level. Absolute game-changers. Feared...in EVERY way.

You believe Boo and Farooq are those guys?
