Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Coach Matthews said Gibson hurt but McCoy “I just don’t know about that” rumbled on. means to me he thinks he’ll just be sitting out likely for the draft.
Not replying to you specifically, but to the McCoy conversation/speculation and the gradual negative shift in tone towards "he's holding out" in general.

There are occasional outliers, but average return to limited play for a high level athlete after ACL surgery is still 9-12 months. We found out about Mccoy's injury January 15 (likely occurred the week before, as the article was post-surgery). We're at 8 months from the article tomorrow. Average high-level athlete return window would be somewhere between Oct 15 and Jan 15. Due to the crappy timing of the injury, we would have always been very lucky to see him back by season's end at full form. We'll never know if he's healing or holding out for the draft, but the law of averages says that he's still healing. Either way, his competitiveness and stellar play last year earned enough grace with me that I will refrain from speculating on his motives.

Same goes for Sanders. We're good at a lot of things as a fanbase. Consistently manufacturing controversy and tearing down our own when faced with a lack of any facts is one of our less-desirable traits.

I don’t get how you can’t criticize the staff or always have excuses. Injuries, youth, etc… I don’t get how you can watch yesterday and say our linebackers and safeties look well coached.

Here’s some positivity:

Many liked to hate on Coach E and that dude has that unit rolling. Our line is big and athletic and that’s without a future too ten pick at tackle yet. Coach E doing work.

Pope was dogged and his receivers played lights out other than a few drops but that happens. They look much improved and like true talented receivers this year.

Tight end depth looks great. Kit looks a little banged up but he and Ethan were laying blocks against a mean defense.

Scheme is light years better and way more creative with motion and choice routes. Props to the staff. Offense had a hell of a game and our coach got conservative in the end and it cost us. I bet he wishes he could change that now. But offense was not even close to what cost us. Scoring 35+ on UGA should always be a win.

DL still wreaked havoc. Herring was abusing their right tackle. Ross and Joseph’s had games too. We were small in the middle but they still held up mostly so our ends could make plays. Garner and Chop will have this unit always playing well. Even with injuries they still did fine and will be much better when Hobbs and Moi return.

Corners played well and had some absolute Bs calls against them. I could have broke my tv. Hood and Redmond are backups and are almost always glued to their guy and making plays. Ty got picked on some but he is a freshmen and he will get beat some. Boo played much better in the second half and was huge in run supper. Honestly
Surprised by their play.

Negative:

Linebacker play and subs. Why is Bolton and a fourth string playing in the fourth quarter? Why is Bolton playing period, this is the sec and he isn’t an SEC talent. Put in a freshmen. Telander runs to wrong gaps and can’t cover in space, why is he starting over Spillman? I swear that dude runs straight into blocks whenever he does try to pressure. Carter plays hard and is good, but his angles can be really hard to make plays. This unit looks lost with motions and bite easily, it’s been an issue for years.

Safety play. This is banks position and hasn’t been good. Never seen such bad angles like Turrentine takes. We brought in Alan Williams to help with safety play and I think it benefited Farooq. Dude was flying around and impressed. But why is Turrentine still starting? Why can’t we try Beasley?

Banks as a DC. Our best defenses have been when he can play base and coverage. This requires elite DL play which we have had the last two years. We all saw what happens against UGA/OSU last year when they don’t get pressure… why are you leaving a freshmen on an island so much? Why let gunner get in a Rhythm and gain confidence? Make him fit the ball in windows and prove he can go through reads. Hitting that bomb and a couple quick passes to start really got him going. I don’t think he does if he goes three and out a couple times to start the game.
All fair and/or accurate takes.

That's weak. McCoy can sit out for the draft at home then.
Got hurt practicing for the team. The responsible thing, and best for the team’s image is to let him rehab with the team; better for recruiting. Sucks if his decision is to sit out though

Georgia shows no propensity to make the vertical passing game a part of their offense. This will catch up to them if they don’t develop this. We seemed to figure it out and started pressing more later in the game. They hurt us when we played a ‘soft” coverage.
Georgia has a lot more flaws than we do. If we aren't missing multiple Day 1-2 draft picks on defense we dominate. Their offense was extremely limited yesterday but effective because they targeted our depth at CB by throwing prayers to the boundary and ran the ball up the middle for 3 yards repeatedly.

The issue is I heard the very same about our OL and reciever coaching last year. I am not making excuses, but we we are down our 2 best on the backend and in the middle. That would easily test a LB corp who covers for both.

Meanwhile UT fans:
CJH blew it multiple times.
Banks can't coach the local high school defense.
Our kicker blew it.
Injuries shouldn't impact outcome.
MM can't catch COVID in Wuhan.
UT can't compete with the big dogs.
Season is over.
Yep
Last night was a loss on the record but helped in the overall growth

I want to apologize for saying “**** you Max Gilbert”. I did, and still do mean it. But he’s a good dude, and a good kicker. He’ll win us more games than he will lose

So that really accurately analyzed UGA success yesterday. It didn't take Einstein level IQ. It was really that simple. He nailed 95% of the responsibility for the success UGA had offensively. It's incredible how many fans fail to understand what seems to be a very simple synthesis of evidence.

Total conjecture. Also, that doesn't make sense to me. McCoy needs to put film out that he's the same player after injury or he's going to miss out on a lot of money in draft order.

I get not trying to come back too quickly, but it makes way more sense to come back at some point.
Yeah I think NFL teams are souring on trusting guys that sit out, because it typically doesn't work out. As a Titans fan and lover of the Vols...I still wouldn't take him beyond the 3rd. His last tape is him getting torched by OSU.

He'll come back and I trust AP's source that he wants to play.

Get McCoy, Hobbs and Moi back and let's win out.

Yeah we literally have Nate Robinson from Greenbrier, Jamal Wallace from JUCO and a Freshman to help out Bryson Eason.
Really dumb we went and got a D2 guy that's not physically ready yet, when we really needed quality DT depth. I trust Josh Schell will be good for us in the future, but that was a miss for this year.

Then again, would some back up DT make a difference against UGA? idk, but Hobbs and Moi would've....

Who else beats UGA today?

Ohio State and.....?
I’d say there are 5-6 teams that could.
UT is one, they just did until they gave them the game.
UGA is not the unbeatable team they were 3 years or 2 years back, they’re not even the team they were last year.
Still good but not what they were.
