Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Gmac and Faizon in the same QB room is going to be elite next year.

It’s going to be Aguilar starting and hoping he gets it going with the receivers. Then Gmac will likely overtake Merk and potentially start later in the year if Aguilar struggles.

Personally, I think Aguilar will be fine as he has game experience and knows when to run (Nico did not). And he is good with the deep ball (what we have missed). And our short throws are mostly curls/comebacks to the sideline which will have less chance of an INT. We don’t need a stellar QB to win 9–10 games. We need someone who can hit a bomb when needed and let the running game do the work.

I think CJH has an idea of who the starter is
He’s very quiet on stuff like this
Not saying he’s not trying I’m just saying they have put him on accelerate mode on GM getting bigger and has been said quite a bit and I do think it’s a message to him bc I think they want him to be the guy……he’s apparently a stud
I hope JA is a gamer but we also need to remember our defense is pretty damn good and the wrs should only keep getting better
I hope our defense is so good that the 1st team offense has to practice against the 2s & 3s to get anything done, 😂

Camp notes-wise? Yes.

Very similar feeling, except the’98 team knew they had playmakers if Tee could just get them the ball. I’m still wondering just how many real playmakers this offense has. Ready to hear someone is stepping up.
Sounds like we have legit playmakers everywhere but WR and that is the real question mark.

Aguilar will start and he has made some plays at a lower stage.

Bishop has made plays and depth behind him sounds good.

Tight End - Kitselman and Davis are legit and Brame has flashed.

If Boo plays he's a proven returner.

WR - shake a magic 8 ball

Hard to feel bad for him. He’s a grown man he oughta be able to fight his own battles and tell his momma to keep off of social media because she is doing him zero favors. She’s making him look like a total idiot.
Being 19 is completely different from being late 20's to early 30's. He has literally been gone for a year. She knows that he is her ticket. My nephew is going through the same thing at this time. It is hard at that age to say "I love you mom but I have to do the best thing for everyone and get away. You need to be quiet and stop social media"

Unfortunately Boo is in a bad spot.

Just like everyone expected: In year 5 of his tenure, Josh Heupel wins big with an elite defense and a mediocre offense.
It was so dumb when people used to say Heupel could never have a good defense. I think a lot of times we have people who unknowingly repeat negative recruiting takes that people use against us. They pick them up from the TV talking heads. Who get them from prominent coaches among our rivals in not for attribution conversations. Of course, there is also the psychological error of thinking everything will always be like it is now.

The new one is that our WRs aren't properly trained to play at the next level.

This might be the best Secondary UT has had in.............years...........hell...............decades

Never say never. I doubt anyone is going to pay him what we do. I think it would be more our choice honestly.
I hope he makes it. I also hope we bring in the quality that we can replace him if need be, as we have started doing. And either way, he will eventually need to be replaced, one way or another. He was one of our top targets and he played well as a true freshman. Our DB room keeps getting better.

(people aren't going to love this but)

I don't think we're in a good place right now.

Aguilar will start game one, but talent wise he just doesn't have it. He'll probably be okay if we can scheme around him but he's really not a top tier QB in the SEC. There's a reason he transferred to a weak UCLA program.

Merklinger isn't playing with much confidence right now. He's got a good throwing motion and is a decent athlete but it's just not coming together for him. I think in a year or two he could be a *fine* starter for a low-end SEC or middle of the pack ACC program but he's just not a program cornerstone type guy.

George looks the part. He's by far the most natural QB of the bunch with far and away the most talent. If things go south with Joey, I hope we throw George out there and just see what he can do. He's way too skinny to physically survive the SEC grind week in and week out right now. I hope our OL can hold up if he's out there but the kid has a lot of natural talent. Really glad we took him over Deuce Knight last year. Will be fun with him and Faizon competing next year.
My biggest fear for the season is that Aguilar is Grayson McCall 2.0 .

That's my optimistic hope. He's definitely going to turn the ball over more but hopefully give our guys a chance to go make plays. We have a solid stable of RBs but no Dylan Sampson. I hope someone can be a deep threat like Thornton, but I've yet to see it.
The "low interception" numbers for Milton and Nico are overhyped. Its because neither offense or defense could catch their air ball passes!

Calling it

Everyone is worried on August 30th. First drive. We get the ball against Cuse, we run it down their throats and after a first down or two we call a shot play, it's of course wide open and Aggy hits him for a TD.

Everyone exhales.
I approve of this. Just no 'first game' mistakes please. "WTH was he thinking....." Throughout the year, always interesting to hear Heupel discuss how far the team has to go.

Well the mouthpieces for the program have done a good job getting the lay of the land communicated. Vol twitter and the masses may still spiral, but the rest of us have a pretty good grasp of where we are at now, warts and all.

There is some undertones of Heup needing to manage this roster better in aspects too. Sooo I take all that getting out as a sign of awareness at least.

Swain's stream was one of the best I have listened to in a while.
