Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

In an article on ESPN that talks about potential risers and fallers compared to last year. Gives a little insight to Syracuse. Vols are not on the list.

Tumble: Syracuse Orange

2024 Record: 10-3
2025 FanDuel Win Total:
5.5

The Orange may have the most difficult conference schedule in the ACC. They visit Clemson, SMU, Georgia Tech and Miami. Those are arguably the four best teams in the league entering 2025, and it's not like Syracuse gets softballs at home. Duke, Pittsburgh, North Carolina and Boston College are all on deck, four teams that enter the season with bowl expectations or better.

Then there's the nonconference portion of the slate, which opens with Tennessee and finishes with a road trip to Notre Dame in late November.

Throw in the fact Syracuse brings back just seven starters and that the team's potential starting quarterback, Steve Angeli, wasn't even with the team in spring practice, and it feels like a tall ask for Syracuse to make a bowl, let alone sniff double-digit wins again this season.

I still think they should've, at least, re-tooled Vols Calls. They could have made it where players answer questions or something. Seems like a waste and mistake to cut off direct fan interaction by killing an outlet that has been around for nearly 4 decades.

They will replace it with something.

But I think getting rid of Vol Calls was long overdue. I mean

-It's on the radio, which no one listens to.
-The same 20 fans every year.
-Cringey, terrible questions every week

Move the Mike Keith show to podcast format and split it into two shows: post-game and a mid-week fan mailbag version.

Just that would be an infinite improvement to Vol Calls.

We should be able to impose our will upfront against them. So even if the QB -> WR connection isn't there yet for us, the run game and defense should do enough to comfortably win.

this team looks to be very bad in the trenches

both sides...Just a continuation from last yr really.

Then they took alot of OL from big programs but for example the Ferguson kid in line to start at Guard for them had the worst pff grade in the country for Guards last yr with like a 40 lol. So sure he came from FSU and Bama but he is awful. Maraad Watson got poached by Texas in the portal and he was their best returning DL. All of that is really just the start.

Wonder why he wouldn’t wear a knee brace all season unless they think it slows him down?
I could be wrong, but I think the current consensus is that bracing has not been shown to decrease the likelihood of reinjury.

The fact that McCoy trusts it and doesn't feel any instability that would make him ask for the brace has to be a good sign.

Pruitt’s just a dumb son of a bitch. No interiority.

Dooley is a deeply selfish narcissist with self destructive “drag everyone down” behavior deeply ingrained into him

He’ll set Georgia back if elected & those saying otherwise are dense
I await your analysis of Butch.

I think Dooley was just in over his head. Like if someone made me CEO of bank of america. I'd tank the company, but just from lack of experience and aptitude, nothing malicious. I think there's probably some intelligence in him.

Your analysis of him sounds a lot more like Butch to me.

Unlike Pruitt. No intelligence there at all.

I listen to the radio, thank you very much.

But agreed otherwise, terrible show, terrible content, constant cringe and absolutely no useful info. Glad they put it out to pasture. But I do think a better version of a coaches show could be good, maybe without the asinine callers.

And that one decision is why we went on a long drought of relevance. Crappy AD making crappy decisions. At that time, we still had a vaunted program not too far removed from a national championship. And they had to go out and hire a person that needed training wheels? I know it's been discussed to exhaustion but I still am 'amazed' at the level of incompetence.

Pruitt knew more about football than both of them combined. He was just a big stubborn donkey

I can agree with this. Good football mind. He had zero intuition on how to run and represent a college football program.

So much more goes into running a college football coaching than just coaching on a practice field and in games. He hated dealing with the media, boosters, and public appearances.
