I will go ahead and call for 8 wins next year. If we get a back like Green and/or Kamara to run behind that O-Line, and get The ball to the Athletes we have at skill positions. We should score some points. And we will be better on defense just by showing up

You guys know much about a guy named Stacy Coley? Saw a few retweets if his in the last few minutes talking about loving the Vols and Rocky Top.

What sucks is we play murderers row early and getting thumped repeatedly seems to demotivate them. I'm interested to see how BJ keeps em from flagging...lulz

As a little bit of a throwback quote from "the Natural", the shrink is talking to the team before Roy Hobbs has suited up, and he is droning on, "Losing is a disease, as contagious as polio..."

Obviously in the movie its meant to be a laughable moment, but I think there's a lot of truth to it from a sports psychology standpoint.

Think about it, for the last 4 years, we've had a loser of a coach - now I don't mean personally or anything, just from a pure statistical standpoint. Kiffin came in with a losing record, won a few and got embarrassed in the bowl game. Dooley comes in with a losing record and just extends that streak, and the Mindset.

We have an entire Roster who have not tasted what it feels like to be true "winners".

Now, just as losing is contagious, I think a winning, positive attitude is infectious.

Look, we've got some good SEC caliber players on this team, someone just has to teach them how to win. And I don't mean against the Austin Peays of the world. I mean, coming back in the 4th quarter in an sec game and pulling out a "W", or getting a lead against a good team and pouring it on towards annihilation, not just nervously hoping "not to lose."

I think CBJ could be that leader, we'll see.

If he brings that swagger, I see 8 wins no problem, maybe more.

Jones went 8-4 and 4-8 in his first seasons. The average would be 6-6. In the 4-8 season he had to replace 12 starters, while we lose arguably half our offense the core (line and backs) are still there. We'll see.

I agree from Kiffen's bowl game to Dooley's last we have looked like a team with no heart except when everything was going our way. It'll be a large undertaking to completely reverse that.

"It looks like Carl Lawson is going to officially visit on Jan. 11. Juco tight end Woody Quinn is tentatively scheduled to visit that weekend as well. Also, the two players from DB, Malik Foreman and Devaun Swafford, are supposed to take official visits that weekend.

I think you'll see that Jan. 11 visit weekend have a good number of visitors in.

We're also hearing Vonn Bell will officially visit on Jan. 25. I'll try and confirm with his coach tomorrow to make sure but that sounds like it's the plan as of tonight."

with one signature win it will be 8-4

has big dan said what his plans are concerning declaring? would really like to see him around for 1 more year

My hope is we can win 6 & get bowl eligible, being realistic I think we go 5-7 again, wouldn't shock me if we went 4-8 either.

Hate to agree and i think we can get to 6, but honestly Kentucky has to be the only SEC win we can count on.

I think we SHOULD beat Ky vandy and mizzou. Having Dooley has ruined yalls confidence and swagger. We should always be able to beat those three. ESP with a coach.

And I think we will have a good shot vs the barn. S Car is winnable too at home.

Never know what could happen with UGA and FL but will be underdogs.

The schedule next year doesn't do us any favors:

  • Austin Peay - Win
  • Western KY - Win (but it's Petrino so it won't be as easy as some think)
  • @Oregon - I just hope we aren't embararrased
  • @UF - Loss (but I think we keep it close)
  • South Alabama - WIN
  • UGA - Loss (potential upset)
  • USCjr - Loss (potential upset)
  • @Bama - LOSS
  • @Mizzou - Swing Game. We win, we're going bowling.
  • Auburn - Swing Game.
  • Vandy - Swing Game (I LOATHE having to say that)
  • UK - Win

A LOT will hinge on who we sign. There are some recruits that, if we sign, will play a significant role as a freshman--specifically Carl Lawson & Derrick Green--both are game changers.

If we can pull those two, those swing games turn in our favor. Vandy was no where near 23 points better than us this year, they were, however, better coached (putting it mildly).

Another thing to keep in mind; how does Chip Kelly's offense stack up to CBJ's in terms of pace and play calling? It was painfully obvious that we were not adept to OU's tempo when we played them last year...I'm curious to see if CBJ's offense has the defense better-prepared to "play" Oregon.

The Oregon game will tell us A LOT for the 2013 season. Mark it down. I said this time last year that the determining factor for Dooley's future was going to be the UF game and, IMO, it was. He was unable to adjust to Muschamp attacking the edge and exposed that weakness for all to see (and exploit) the rest of the season.

How we play Oregon next year will be a big indication on how next season will go. If we're able to make good adjustments and, at the very least, hang with them from a coaching standpoint, then those swing game become possible W's.

Per my bama friend Terry Joseph is a serious contender to replace Pruitt as Bama's secondary coach

I think he is a very good DB's coach. Our DB's played much better when he was here. Nebraska and it's DB's were the best in the BIG10 with him there. He is also a very good recruiter. I really wanted to see him back part of this staff. Bama would be getting a good one.

Chip Kelly has been in rumors around several NFL jobs - it will be interesting to see what happens once the NFL season is over and some of those jobs open up

if he goes i think that ship could go down like Arky's did w/o Petrino

I think if he bounces that game will get a lot more interesting

That's about exactly the way I broke it down in my mind also. 4 certain wins and you would like to hope we can grab some combo of at least 2 wins somewhere else. Defensive improvement should allow us to hang with vandy, mizzou, aubby and uscjr, giving us a chance to get to a bowl.

Edit: Having low expectations SUCKS.

Great post :good!:

With our OL a guy like D. Green could have a Gurley type impact next fall. And landing Lawson will give our DL an elite pass rusher which will make everyone else on D better. You add in an obvious upgrade in coaching and the 2013 Vols could finish MUCH better than 5-7. IMO

If Kelly leaves, then Mark Helfrich, the OC, will get the HC job. I doubt much changes at all in Oregon. They may drop off some, but it will be about the same, IMO.

One thing that I'm really interested to see is how CBJ approaches the season, from a marketing and fan interaction standpoint.

In other words, does he employ some of the same marketing tactics that Pearl did to restore some interest in the BB program? If CBJ can market this team in a similar fashion as Pearl, while also doing more with less...it will create some forward momentum for the first time since UGA '09, IMO.

IF he can accomplish that while also managing to avoid blowouts and embarrassing losses, this team will develop that swagger he spoke of in his presser.

All I want at this point is to become competitive again. If we lose, I want the winning team to say "we had to fight like hell to win because those guys never backed down." And if we win, I want the opposing team to say "[UT] never let [their] foot off the gas."

YES...it sucks to have lowered expectations but if I have to write "this must be rock-bottom" one more time I'm going to cry.

It's less about wins and losses next year than it is about taking back some respect. I'm OVER being the doormat.
