I agree with everything except two points:

1. Posters were overjoyed (in general) when Fulmer took over as AD because he was a sports guy, not a bean counter. He would right the UT AD... revisionist history makes him a bad choice from the beginning.

2. Kiffin lost me when he said that he was going to make UT into sc East. Putting up posters of sc great players NOT Tennessee great players. Then he left at least two wins on the field with bad coaching decisions. Played to lose close games against bama and florida (just wanted to look good, uninspired coaching schemes) especially UCLA. No answer for either ole miss or auburn. No effort to win bowl game against VT. Only times that I want to see kiffin at Tennessee is watching him deflate on the sideline as CJH’s team runs up the score on him. 😁

Funny story. My freshman year we got a new football coach and he was installing a veer blocking scheme. The line needed a call to alert each other when they were going to need to double team a defensive lineman. He asked the starting line what call they'd like. Someone jokingly said "gonads".

Coach went with it and for at least the four years I was there "gonads" was the double team call.

I don't understand why the word "Gimmick" keeps being used by people. Their is nothing gimmicky about Heupels offense. It is not the I-formation, but nobody runs that anymore.

Agreed, which is why I used “”
A lot of us, myself included, allow nostalgia and romantic ideas of purist football to cloud out view of where TN is at present. I’m optimistic about this Heupel experiment because I think it could really give us an identity going forward. We have to let go of the past. It was beautiful, but in general, letting go of the past (even the good past) is a fundamental part of enjoying the present.

I feel like we say the same thing every time. With Dooley, Butch, Pruitt, now JH. This is another experiment hope this one turns out better
Pruitt had no HC experience and had not stayed with any team more than 3 years. Coordinators do have success in some situations. I think most people took a wait and see with him. I think most are the same with CJH except less optimistic simply because of the mess he walked into.

Whoever was supposed to vet Jones... didn't. His record against teams that finished with a winning record at UC was 5-14. He literally filled out his resume beating really bad teams The combined win % of the teams he beat was around 35%.

It is another "experiment"... but his resume is a little better than the last 3.

Yeah..I understood what you were saying. I was referring to the same people you were.

When I think of gimmick, I think of crap plays like the fumblerooski, or rare offenses that hardly anybody run like the Wishbone.

Tennessee is in extra innings with Georgia Southern in the third game of the 3 game series. We have the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the 12th. In this 3 game series, UT batters have struck out over 45 times. That's an unbelievable stat considering we won the first two games.

I'm actually way more optimistic about CJH than I was with Pruitt. With him I was hoping he could turn our roster around.

I think a lot of what is referred to as a "gimmick" offense is what happens pre-snap.....orbit or half-orbit motions, unbalanced lines, hurry-up so the defense can't sub out, etc. auBarn at their best in Gus's early years (2010-2014) only ran about 8 plays but they did it from a huge variety of sets and formations, sometimes called "eye candy"....the bammers always accused him of running a high school or gimmick offense.....their real complaint was ole Gus was kicking them in the tooth and whipping their a**es. It's not a gimmick if you can consistently win with it. IMO
