I hope we don't have to go interim, but if we do I would rather go with Jay Graham than Tee.The main risk if you name Tee interim coach is that he's going to want the job at the end of it. Would be a hard conversation to have when we needed to move on. But big boy programs have big boy talks when they have to.
You never how kids will respond to a coach though. I don't necessarily think he's ready, but I was open to hiring him last time around when we were in chaos. Thought he could be a stabilizer and I still think that. He could be a good CEO coach for all we know. Nobody thought Dabo was ready either.
Hire good assistants and let them do their job. Motivate and inspire and spread good things into the world about the program. Tee could do those things. Can he manage a gameday? Don't know. There would be some learning curves. But he might do a better job than some of us think.
I would rather hire him than some outsider we've got to google and cross our fingers on.
Bingo. It happened with Butch.People saying they’d be satisfied with 8 win seasons with the occasional 9-10 year seasons are FOS.
You’d be calling for that coaches head too.
I'm sure there is some of that.I also wonder if the main reason some are dead set on keeping Pruitt isn’t just because firing him would mean admitting they were wrong.
Jones problem (specifically year 4) was going 8-4 with a 10 or 11 win roster. And then he wondered why people were pissed when he lost to SC and Vandy.Bingo. It happened with Butch.
THAT SAID, avoid a disaster season (4-8) and they'll survive. Somehow our coaches are always on the brink of a total collapse.
Of course. To compound that, if the rumors are true that Phil is spending most of his time around the football team, then he probably feels like one of the coaches. At that point you are basically asking him to fire a staff that he feels he is a part of, and there is zero chance he could be objective about that.I also wonder if the main reason some are dead set on keeping Pruitt isn’t just because firing him would mean admitting they were wrong.
Biggest reason he gets criticized is the way he left. He quit midgame. I don't blame him for hard feelings towards Butch, but he quit on his team in the middle of a game.Hurd was ~400 yds away from being the career leader in rushing yards in UT history. Had he stayed he would have been the all time leading rusher in the history of the university. Definitely not a scrub and probably doesn’t get the appreciation he deserves.
(I’m a Gallatin guy and he went to Beech so that’s hard to admit).
I'm sure there is some of that.
Whether we want to hear it or not if he succeeded it wasn't going to be quick and would require him "learning on the job". Something he wasn't doing apparently.
49 years ago I became a Vols fan while watching Holloway play QB versus LSU in the old Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl. I have seen ups and downs and highs and lows. Do not give up. We were really down in late 70’s and early 80’s and then in 1982 it started to turn around with an upset over Alabama. We are one good HC away from a turn around. Football is funny, you never know how the ball is going to bounce. It is about time for the ball to bounce our way.My give a damn is broken
