As long as we are capable of filling Neyland and recruiting top 10, we are one hire from success. Both of those are still true.

What is really sad is neither of those are true with Pruitt, and at the very least, it was discussed bringing him back.

Listening to Basilio, I'm not sure it's as dysfunctional as it appears. He believes that the new admin over there, especially Boyd and Plowman, know what they're doing. he believes we're going to Texas this thing and try to have our guy in place. I think making Friend pay his buyout shows there is some different leadership over there.

His contract expired didn’t it? I can’t see any coach paying their own buyout.

but I hope this is the case

Outside of an Auburn win in year 1 and a 6 game run at the end of last year where we actually beat all the teams we should be beating, Pruitt’s situation has been nothing but a train wreck. He has absolutely nothing to hang his hat on in the way of progress.
SMH..you guys are all freakin hypocrites. He took over the worst team in UT history and won eight games his second year despite his very first signing class was a wipeout because of the complete joke of a program we had become by the time he was hired late.

And then his most important developmental offseason with a very young team was completely wiped out by a once in a century pandemic..

That is some pretty serious context too...look I know he has to go now, and he didn't help matters with bad staff and player moves..that is on him, but I don't hate the guy, and I think he is getting a raw deal.

I am a bit confused about all of the Hugh Freeze talk. I read in the Hugh Freeze thread that the SEC would not approve Freeze. Let me paraphrase the points someone made in the Hugh Freeze thread.....

(On hiring Hugh Feeze)

it's a conference rule.

Four years ago, the SEC presidents voted to approve a rule where if a school wanted to hire a coach in any sport that had received a show cause or had been found to have committed NCAA Level 1 violations, the school would have to apply to the Commissioner for approval to hire that person.

When Alabama wanted to bring in Freeze as an analyst, he was rejected because of this rule. When he actively pursued the Tennessee and Auburn OC jobs two years ago, the schools were reminded of the policy by the conference office. The rule has also prevented Art Briles from joining two different SEC staffs.

Can someone confirm this is correct, still applicable, or clarify?

Yeah, I don't personally believe it but it's worth considering given new leadership, particularly Randy Boyd who I believe is competent.

I guess we'll see soon enough.

Right now the circus is in town. And not in a good way.

The way I look at it, if you want to replace him, do it. You dont need cause and the longer you let this roll out with the unknown, the buyout $ wont be worth the damage it caused.

Im obviously not a lawyer, but I dont understand why they couldnt go after the buyout $ after the fact if he is tied to issues he left UT to deal with.

If it’s not something you can overcome then they’ll never work in the SEC again and that’s garbage.

Could Hugh Freeze soon be back in the SEC?
With Freeze now a hot coaching candidate, the topic has become relevant again. While you shouldn’t expect Sankey to roll out the red carpet for a Freeze return, the conference office block on an SEC school hiring him is no longer there, multiple sources told AL.com. The feeling is that Freeze served his time away from the league and that if a school wanted to hire him as a head coach, it would have the opportunity to do so.

The more I see about potential replacements, if it comes to that, the more impressed I am with Napier. He's done well at ULL. The biggest thing to me is that he knows exactly what he wants in an SEC job because he's confident that he knows which programs have a high ceiling and exactly what he needs from an administration standpoint to compete at the top of the SEC...and he won't take a job that doesn't meet his demands. I think if UT were able to hire Napier, it would signal that the admin is going to get their act together and do everything that needs to be done for the program. I also think Napier is the best shot for longterm stability.

If this is a big nothing burger he can sue and get access to their emails and cellphones.

Just feel like we will surprisingly make a good hire once Pruitt is fired. For as bad as the last decade plus has been, it’s time for us to finally fall ass backwards into a good hire. Certainly were due for a little luck, I can feel it.

Or maybe it’s just that Bojangles I just ate.

I will be honest. I have very little faith in this being true, but would absolutely love to be totally surprised by it.

If that’s the case then maybe just maybe we make the call?
