The only way he can win is to overpay for top coordinators and get a ready to start grad transfer QB. Orgeron style.
None of the above is available IMO.

We're a destination job....hasn't stopped the last 3 hires from being MEDIOCRE. Regardless of where they coached, that's their win percentages at this point in their careers. You've got nothing other than stubborn opinion to claim Gus is mediocre is the point, not matter how many times you post it over and over.
Gus sucks...the only joy I would ever get from hiring Mehlzan would be rubbing your nose in his abject failure.

i literally LOL'd when they said he presented his "Plan". Welll.... My Puh-land is to move fah-wurd and to coach these boys. We'll go get us sum Tennessee boyz who can play gudd. I'll let big Jeehim call the plays moving fah-wurd and go get us some ball playurz from the "transfer mark-utt".

full transparency my accent might be worse than his but i'm not the one driving our program into the ground so i choose to make fun of his.

What are the "broken relationships" that are being referred to? Relationships with high school coaches? People in the admin? Boosters?

Whether it’s true or not there are a lot of folks that don’t like him on the hill. Some folks say he’s burned more bridges at HS in the area than Butch did

Candidate pool did not have any big names as usual I imagine. Who wants to join me on the Clemson bandwagon??. I dont think I can deal with this administration anymore
There's one out there but as usual, they think their sh!t don't stink and won't hire him..

No matter what happens here, our AD and boosters are ******* joke..

Bob_Vols from 247:

After talking to a couple people this morning, I believe Pruitt will return.

I was told yesterday he was done and there would be announcement by Friday but this morning things changed dramatically. I do not think it is over but if I had to put a percentage on it I would say it’s 60/40 he returns. Pruitt has had conversations with the decision makers and presented a solid plan that included direction of his staff, making instate ‘22 class and beyond more of a priority, and adding some ‘21 transfers to this class. The biggest part of his plans is focusing on being a head coach and delegating more to his staff both on the field and off. There were several relationships that have been damaged that need repaired on Pruitt’s and the University’s side. I am told this is Plowman’s decision to make. She has counseled with many including Fulmer, BOT, former players and current boosters. Again, no decision has been made. Could come at any time between now and Sunday but I do believe Pruitt returns unless something very damning comes out of the investigation and at this point I believe it to be minor. I do believe an assistant coach could be the fall guy.

Like I said these things are fluid (although some can’t wrap their mind around that) and can take unexpected turns. I didn’t see any way after what all I was told he could be back but here we are. After hearing all this and the candidate pool, I believe it is best he returns next season. I do believe they will give him every resource to be successful next season within reason. I also believe that his seat will remain hot and he will need to show a lot of progress next season. If he is not I believe they will move swiftly and have a plan in place. They were not prepared for this season to be as bad as it was along with all the off the field issues. Again, it’s not completely over and nothing would surprise me at this point but I believe Pruitt returns.

Flame away.

Between the poor results on field, lack of player development and transfer rules we are stuck in a very tough spot.

I'm all but convinced Pruitt is coming back. I don't see next year being much better in reality. I love Tennessee but I'm going to love it a little less than I used to. Hopefully someone, or something will come along and reenergize this once proud program. Until then, we wait and hope complete apathy doesn't set in before we get there.

If they legit are planning on bringing him back then they need to end this madness and come out with something showing definitively that he's back. Otherwise you're gonna continue to see sherwin-williams stock soar from all the paint people are buying to paint "fire pruitt" on the rock. Enough is enough, make a decision and let the whole thing be put to bed one way or the other.

So basically they had a meeting with Pruitt and he sold them his plan, they bought it, and he's here to stay. Sounds like what happened the first time we hired him. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Plan #1 tanked, so he sold them another "bill of goods" (plan #2) and they bought it....... again..

Don't want to hear another word how stupid Pruitt is because, evidently, our AD and boosters are even more stupid...

So it takes 5 years originally + an additional 4 years + 10 or so assistants that come and go + 13 dozen repaired relationships = Tennessee being relevant again.

I'll give Pruitt one thing, he can recruit anyone to work for him... Players, ADs, Schools. The man sells

I mean he must, right? How else can someone get embarrassed by Georgia State and BYU in year 2 then turn around and go 3-7 in all blowout losses to teams that include Arkansas and Kentucky in year 3 and still retain a job?
