Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

Please no comparisons of Cut to Barnes. +60 year old coaches historically do their best work in basketball. It goes the other way typically in football. There are a few exceptions like Saban, but most have retired or are on the downside. Basketball - with the elite programs the players can go one and done, the recruiting classes are small, one or two players can make a major impact. Football - players are on the roster 3-5 years, the recruiting classes and rosters are much larger and more difficult to handle, and it takes multiple players on both sides of the ball to make a major impact.

Cut only moves the needle for older fans and players. The majority would think we were dumb as a rock to go back to the future.

I know a VFL who would drive there with Peyton tomorrow and make sure Cut comes home. He would be a legend here if we won a title after we have been down so long. Tell me a better hire that everyone (VFL’s, boosters, fans, etc.) could get behind.
I would be fine with Cutcliffe. I don't think a lot of VN would share our sentiment, though.

The A&M game has been on the 12th on utsports for awhile now
Earlier in the week when @LA Vol first mentioned it I looked then and it was listed on the 12th.

The SEC is shuffling everything on a week-by-week basis under the new flex-scheduling policy. Nobody's even bothering to adjust schedules, since dates, times, teams and TV schedules are being reset by the conference, at Sankey's discretion.

I received an email last week, and I believe UT made an announcement. But maybe they didn't.

all good

it’s all confusing and sorry for questioning it. No harm intended

Nowhere near as enamored as I was before Texas hired him, but imo the experience will end up beneficial to his career...wherever he lands.
I look at it like this. We're not hiring Hugh Freeze. I know a lot of people want him, but a sour relationship with Fulmer and his past baggage will prevent UT from making that move. People can be pissed, but reality is what it is. Fickell is destined for a Big 10 job IMO, and Campbell is more likely to get an NFL job or a higher profile college job than he is to come to UT. I love Cutcliffe, but he's certainly not the answer for UT. That time is past. So the names that I could possibly see UT looking at are Herman, Napier, and Chadwell. Of those three, I think Herman would make the most sense. But that's JMO. We're not as prestigious as we once were. And no matter what anyone says, there's still a lot of dysfunction in our admin.

Day before Florida game and absolutely no excitement. One guy is okay with bringing Miles in, another wants to fast track Witten as head man??
Bass is right, we are dead..
I was jumping on the Cut train, but now, you have gone and derailed all of my Volunteer spirit.

Well, no, Jeremy has taken care of that.

I'm not real big on Herman as HC here. I've just read enough to think his personality wouldn't go over well but that's just my opinion. I'll get flamed for this but I'm not a fan of Chadwell. Mainly because I don't think his body of work is large enough for him to be the HC at a program of this size. Nothing personal against him.

I'd be fine with Freeze, Campbell, Malzhan, Richt, or possibly Cutcliffe.

It comes down to where you think our program is. I don't believe any of these guys are a lock to get us into the CFB playoffs but I think they bring stability in their own way. And I think that's what we need. We need stable recruiting classes, stable win/loss record, and stability in the AD office. We haven't had any of those things in a long time.
