maybe i am missing something but didnt people on this board want him to hire position coaches that were good recruiters and had connections in the south - especially in states that are critically important to us like GA?

i am not sure how Wmartinez doesnt fit that bill - if we hired him as DC i would get the concern

but he is known as a really good position coach and recruiter - has ties in GA - seems to be exactly the type of guy CBJ should have landed and he did

More importantly ties in Florida.

People are concerned because they got fired at a job. So did Bill Bellicheck. Andy Reid is about to get fired. Jon Gruden got fired. It happens

"My best friend is a big time Georgia fan and upon seeing the possible hires of Jancek and Martinez I was feeling like we were just getting UGA retreads like alot of you guys are. I asked my buddy and he basically said Martinez was an elite recruiter and DB coach, but he was just in over his head as a play caller. He also said Jancek was a great coach and an elite recruiter at UGA and that the players loved him, however he was a casualty of Martinez not ready to be a play caller. My buddy always keeps it real and is very intrigued with Jancek calling plays and Martinez coaching DB's, says it has potential to be an elite hire. TIFWIW just thought I'd share."

am i missing someone? that would leave 2 spots I believe - if we are going after Tee seems a bit offense heavy - any ideas who are targeting as DL coach or is Palermo possibly keeping that job?


EDIT - put in stripling and took out hinshaw

Good post, Ron. Even if Martinez was DC, its not like they cannot grow after a few years. But he's not the DC. I believe its coming together.

Hinshaw is gone. Elder is not a lock with Martinez likely on staff. Stripling coaching DL.

Earlier someone said Stripling Jones's guy in UC is coming to do DL I believe

You forgot Stripling at DL. He will likely be coming to Knoxville.

I'm in the skeptical boat with CBJ, but Martinez would be a great hire for recruiting purposes, and he looks to be a good DB coach from what I've read.
