Fulmer’s 2008 recruiting class also was horrendous. It looked like he was losing his touch in all areas of the game at that point in 2008. We had no idea that the pretty good class he had started for 2009 would stick, that Meyer would leave within a couple of years, or that our replacement would be one and done. Heck, even as USC moved down its list, it seemed Kiffin had no nexus to the search.I'm sounding like I'm about to out-Eeyore Eeyore, but CPF’s bowl record after 2001:
2002 Lost Peach
2003 Lost Peach
2004 Won Cotton
2005 Sat home
2006 Lost Outback
2007 Won Outback
2008 Sat home
If CJP could (for the sake of the argument) do that starting next year, I bet VN would be calling for someone to take us to the next level.
Note: the 2005 Cotton Bowl rocked!
Hindsight definitely is 20/20 on this, but the answer is Fulmer over Kiffin, over Dooley, over Butch, and over Pruitt to appease the football gods.
