I’m with it. I don’t think firing Pruitt is the answer right now.

But what I think is funny is you (and @Atlanta VOL to an extent) were adamant that this was a 7 or 8 win team this season and that if it weren’t that there were going to be a ton of very unhappy people in the administration. To me, someone who reads what you guys say with the notion you are connected to the program in some capacity, that sounds an awful lot like heads might roll. So to act like it’s crazy to think the worst season in Tennessee history - which we’re on pace for - might, MIGHT, result in a termination, is wild to me.

No one is advocating for Pruitt to be fired. No one. But to act like it isn’t even in the realm of possibility is irresponsible.

To be fair, I think 7 or 8 wins was the expectation. Losing 4 defensive starters in Fall camp likely changed that expectation, I'm disappointed we're 0-2. But had us 2-1 at best going into the swamp after learning we lost Gooden, Bituli, Bryce & Baylen.

Just realized we get MSU after their bye week. That sucks. That's already the toughest winnable game.

he was responsible for at least 14 of those points for giving GSU short fields.
LOL, if our defense can't hold the worst team in the country to a field goal at least one of those times, then JG is clearly not our only problem.

Why does the QB get so much blame and credit in football? It's the ultimate team sport, but somehow we put all the responsibility on one player more than all the other sports that are actually more dependent on one individual.

I want to preface this by saying I think you might be right. And more to the point, I hope you’re right.

But here’s the question: what is the minimum expectation for the rest of the season? Does Pruitt get a free pass? Because if he does I can talk myself into signing on for it - just want to know how other people think.
Minimum 4-5 wins this season and we have to be competitive with every team not named UF, UGA, and Bama. You can blame the first losses on youth and adjusting to new coordinators. Finish with a top 15 class and I will give him a pass. But I will never forget the loss to GSU... I am with you that I have my doubts on him, but this staff is top notch and I hope like heck he is the guy because I would give my right arm for a ten win season.

No one anticipated JG being a train wreck. As many have stated, with an average at best QB, we are 2-0.
Have you watched the games? JG would be considered horrible for a middle school QB.
JG is not the reason we lost to Georgia State nor is he the reason we lost to BYU. He has not been good - I’m not going to argue with you that he has - but the Tennessee Volunteers should be able to run the ball right up the middle 75 times and beat Georgia State. He was bad in the BYU game - but we still win if the defense doesn’t let a pass go over their heads or stops BYU’s offense in either overtime period.

People are blaming the QB because it’s easier than blaming the coaching staff. Period.

I’m with giving another QB a shot. But Tennessee should have won both of those games regardless.

JG didn't give up 38 to arguably the worst team in the country.

False.

Stop basing everything off LAST YEAR. Georgia State is 2-0 and 25th in offensive scoring, no we shouldn't have lost to them. But don't act like we played the 2-10 Georgia State team, we didn't it's a new season and that team might win the Sun Belt.

We need to come out Saturday with the pedal to the metal, determined to get up huge by halftime. None of this vanilla garbage. Come out and stomp on them so that Maurer and Shrout can play in the second half. It would also be nice to get Crouch, Harrison, and Banks more reps before we enter SEC play.

You think if Maurer came in and lit a fire it would cause HB and others to back off? I like bringing in my future when my starter is a junior.

Oh yeah, it's much more difficult for you to say blame the coach I never liked.
Must be terribly hard work.

you're right, its not pruitt's responsibly to hand out press passes, the athletic communications department does. but when access is limited in a way that runs counter to the practices of programs across the country like bama, clemson, and most every other school in the country, does a writer--who was paid to move here with his family to write about tennessee football-- not have a right to be irked his job is made that much harder?

i just don't understand the hostility, that's all.

I just don't understand the sympathy.

If you're working for the communications department at UT, and you've seen the sorry state of sports journalism in Knoxville for decades now, I don't blame them one bit for being risk averse in regards to access to the athletic program. You think that all of the sudden they're going to write positive pieces when their pattern of behavior suggests otherwise? How long has Adams been around? I remember being in college and we had a top 10 program and Adams was STILL looking for any excuse to dump on the program. How long has Hyams been the creepy guy two inches from every player and coach in an interview, who then runs and simply regurgitates what we can all watch on youtube now? How long has Rucker been about Rucker? He was writing the same type of stuff that he wrote in the Beacon when we were undergrads complaining about a sport he never played.

I would tell them all to kick rocks, too.

Ubben's edge is that he actually does analysis, I guess. Would I want him out charting reps, touches, who's not present, etc.? Hell f@#$ing no. Clemson and Alabama can get away with that now because they're media darlings and they don't need every edge they can get to kick the crap out of everyone, and frankly the Tuscaloosa media is probably terrified of Saban and his cult of inbreds.

I'll take it one step further, it's not the job of the athletic department to prop up a bloated, entitled Knoxville sports media.

He’s 100% to blame in the BYU game. Yes, Taylor lost his receiver and the pass went over his head. But we were only up 16-13 at that point because of JGs play. Not making the passes to get first downs/touchdowns. The Georgia State game should be put on players/coaches alike. But JG was just bad in the BYU game. I’ve never been a JG hater, but go back and watch the offensive plays yourself. He’s late, overthrows, etc. If not for Jennings catching a tipped pass in the end zone we wouldn’t have had our first TD

So if our boss gives us a project to do, that is due at the COB. We both have a lot of work to do, but you find a way to finish your part of the project. Unfortunately I don't, but I don't tell you until 4:30. We both get dinged for not finishing the project. Is it your fault or my fault that the project did not get completed?

JG is not carrying his weight. If GSU is the worst team in the country, JG should have been carving that secondary up, but he was not. So is he the worst QB in the country then?

For the last time, I’ve never disliked Jeremy Pruitt. I hope he succeeds here. Have I always had my doubts? Of course.

But it’s not like I predicted a three win season this summer. Hell, I was as over-optimistic as everyone else. I believe my exact words were “7 wins, but get that Mississippi State game and it could propel us to 9.” 😂😂 what a doofus.

LOL OK, you're right, we were outmatched in talent.

And putting 14 points on JG is a huge exaggeration. Our defense should never ever allow 3 TD drives of 75+ yards to GA St.

JG is not our only problem.

I skipped back also, started to grab a screenshot of you naming him starter or calling him "brilliant" in the pocket but since this was actually about your eye for coaches, grabbed this instead

Sidenote, until I read a bunch of your posts together, I really didn't realize the extent of your man crush on Jones...Bro, uhg.

Will gladly own that one. Was terrified of him going to Florida. Idk what the hell happened to him.

Exactly that one moment did it for me. I think this staff at this point should exhaust all options to find the guy or at least prove to us ( I know they don’t care what we think probably) that literally JG is the only option after the last couple performances he’s had. Heck to me he’s never been too good he’s had moments but even a blind bird gets a worm now and then.

Personally.JG didn’t beat auburn last year or Kentucky that was pure defense stopping Kentucky’s run and just doing enough to hold on.if you take those games away combined with the 0-2 start I think he’s benched.Auburn and Kentucky bought him time.

The players man. He lost really the only thing good Butch left in Kyle Phillips and Tuttle. Those 16 and 17 classes were atrocious. We should have 2 deep of junior and senior d tackles. The thing about Pruitt is he’s owning it. Something Butch never did.

Our team slogan in 2016 was “own it” 😱

Says the guy that just claimed breaking down positions and identifying problems is "easier" than just saying "coach!"
