Troy, Appalachian State, Wyoming. Chit happens to a lot of Big time Programs, and we ain’t the first to have it happen to us and we won’t be the last.

I get it, and I’m not in the camp that says fire Pruitt. We need stability more than wins right now.

But the GSU game is a really troubling indicator of coaching issues. Even a basic gameplay should have allowed us to sleepwalk to a victory. And it wasn’t even a fluke, they straight up whipped us in every facet.

Last week I thought this way but now I’m thinking the only way out of this hole is to support Pruitt and give him the time for a true rebuild. He’s a far better coach than the last few guys and surrounded by great coaches and all the support staff he needs.

The truth is with a good QB we’re 2-0 right now despite all the other issues. The best players on the team are freshman and sophomores, they wouldn’t even be playing yet at Bama or UGA or Clemson. We’re forced to play them before they’re ready. It’ll be the same way with the 2020 and 2021 classes as well.

There’s no way around this rebuild. Firing Pruitt isn’t the answer. Not this week, in November or next November. He didn’t suddenly become a bad football coach after arriving in Knoxville. Neither did Chaney or any of the other guys.

Recruit, develop and time is the only answer right now. Blowing it up will only delay any progress and no matter who the next coach is the same cycle will occur.

Again, a good QB and we’re 2-0.

Or maybe I’m wrong and let’s just keep firing and hiring new coaches every 2-4 years until one is able to win despite lack of talent and development.

We overlooked GSU, and we aren’t in a position where we can overlook any team on any given week. I know GSU is not a world beater but they are a group of 5 school and they deserved more respect then we gave them. I saw improvement though from last week to this week. BYU’s quarterback has the ability to scramble and we did a good job of keeping his legs in check, last week we struggled with that so that’s why I mention it. I think Pruitt and the team learned a valuable lesson last week in that you can’t overlook any team, and you can’t look ahead. The most important game is the next one and that’s the mentality Pruitt has to engrain into his team.

My sunshine pumper ran out last week about 8:00 PM. I have zero confidence in this staff and won't until we beat someone significant. Don't see that happening anytime in the near future.
LOL! I was talking to another Tennessee fan at church this morning, and I told him to watch what happens. Every year we keep saying that we think we should beat Florida, and we can’t do it. This will be the year that we go into that game thinking we have absolutely 0% chance, and we will somehow go down there and pull the upset. At least that is what I’m going to keep telling myself.

He doesn’t have the ability to lead a football team. He is running out of excuses. He’s had 8 months to get this team ready and they have regressed. If you don’t see him as being the problem Then im not sure we are watching the same team the last few years
Not having a productive quarterback is our problem. The plays are there, the receivers are open on their routes but when you can’t get them the ball it limits our ability. You expect a man to come in and fix 3 bad hires worth of issues in 14 games? The program needs continuity. He is learning on the job and is building this program back with the foundation to what builds a successful SEC team.

So let's see a show of hands.... If we win 2-3 games this year, who's still on the Pruitt bus? Just chocking it up to bad players? How you gonna feel when we go 0'fer in conference? Because that's a definite possibility.

My post game randoms:

  • I've been a JG defender and I am here to eat my words. The kid is just ruined. I don't think he sucked when he came here, but I think the four OC's, no OL's, no S&C, no QB coach for his first 2-3 years etc has ruined him. Tennessee did him a disservice with that and what we see now is the result. A shell shocked one read QB with no feel for the game and terrible vision. I'm not going to take to social media and bash him or anything, but reality is the sooner the JG era is over, the better. He is a liability.
  • Defensively, Warren Burrell is a liability right now. Two weeks in a row he's been targeted. Last night he was playing 42 yards off the line of scrimmage every snap. All the VQ fluff blurbs about him being this and that seem like fake news.
  • On that note, I'll never pay for any 247 or VQ subscription again. Those guys don't know ish. Can't gleam anything from watching 7 minutes of practice. And recruiting is so dumb with kids just saying whatever, that even the recruit interviews are useless. But I digress.
  • Crouch is a man.
  • To'oto'o is going to be one of the best ever to play the position here, all said and done.
  • Eric Gray might leave here the schools all time leading rusher. I love me some Ty Chandler, but Gray makes Chandler look average.
  • Not even taking the first sack into consideration as he wasn't even blocked, but Bumphus looked at home on the DL. Glad we have him for next year as well.
  • I really, really, really, really, really don't like the shuffling of OL. I don't know how after a spring and fall camp, you don't know who your best 5 are. Pruitt, Chaney, and Friend know far more about the game than I ever will, but all I've ever heard is how important it is for the OL to have chemistry and confidence in one another. That'll never happen if you're rotating 8-10 guys in to include having them play multiple positions.
  • Jauan Jennings. I mean, really, 'nuff said. He is a gift. We are so lucky to have him.
  • Savion and Middleton both seem like JUCO busts. Or at least complete non-factors.
  • Speaking of non-factors, Nigel Warrior. Maybe I was blinded by his high ranking in HS, his pedigree, and my simple want for him to be great.... but I really thought Pruitt and Ansley would turn him into a force. He aint ****, except a step slow and mostly out of position.
  • Oh, and can we please get an interception? Someone? Anyone? If only by accident?
  • Didn't make any big plays but Kivon Bennett seemed awfully close a time or two.
  • Darrel Taylor finally made an appearance. Likely to disappear for a couple weeks though.

Lastly, I can't relate to these "Fire Pruitt" idiots.

Great post that is spot on. A few additions below.

Technically that first touchdown catch by Jennings was an interception seeing how JG threw it to the BYU defense.

With Burrell I think a lot of the hype stemmed from the fact he enrolled early. Toot Toot didn’t enroll early so that throws that logic out the door. At the end of the day he’s a true freshman that shouldn’t be seeing the field if Thompson was available.

I also agree 💯 that Gray is our most talented back...gonna be a beast.

As far as Nigel Warrior goes I often wonder if he got a ratings bump because he is related to Dale Carter. I mean the guy can lay the wood on a runner (when the correct angle is taken) but is a liability in coverage.

As for the JUCO bust that is more the norm from JUCO lineman. For every Nick Fairly there seem to be 40 Dontavius Blair. I usually see a lot of JUCO additions as a sign of roster deficiencies you are trying to Bandaid.

Lastly my biggest issue with your post is you don’t trust the Wes Rucker 7 minute practice evaluations. I mean in the past he has always been spot on with a keen eye for talent.

i dont see the on or off field leadership, i see someone in over their head.

I've already opined too much on a 20 yr old cfb player. JG absolutely is not the answer. It is time to take our lumps and look to the future, (yes all the way to the year 2000).

I said I would give Pruitt 4 years.

I still will.

By that time he would have most of his players and a chance to find a QB.

Year 4 is the breaking point for me.

This year doesn’t matter. Clearly.
I think year 4 we’ll be very happy with what we see from Pruitt. Need to be patient. Firing him would be enormously stupid

We recruit top 15 and get hardy baron and keep bailey and Keyshawn and BJ and young guys play hard then I’m still in.

You seriously think we still get Bailey? 🤣🤣🤣
I'm not worried about Bailey now or any current commits now. I'm worried about them in about six weeks. It's gonna be ugly, and embarrassing. It will be a huge undertaking to hold onto them and then snag some more highly thought of players.

I want y’all to notice a common denominator.
The lack of production from nearly every big name recruit.
There is a weakness in what is being taught and coached.
These guys aren’t sorry athletes AT ALL.
They aren’t horrible football players, they just haven’t gotten any better since arriving on campus and THATS THE PROBLEM.

'Ive been walkin the streets tonite, just tryin' tuh get it right! Hard to see with so many around, i aint got time for pain...'

been a while...

Time to support Pruitt, until it's not. Not changing my mind on him, but going to support the program. Nonetheless.

As long as he keeps recruiting well, we need to show support. OL is improved from last year. Dline is rebuilding.

Time to see big picture and get Jg outta there. he's toast.

If Taylor doesn’t have that bust, we win, and the narrative in here is completely different. It’s how good a job Pruitt did between week 1 and 2 coaching these guys up and correcting the errors and that all we need is a QB. Instead, because of one bust where a guy did not do what coach told him to do, people want to fire Pruitt.

Lunacy
I agree with this post..... Heres the deal. If JG puts us in the endzone during any of those drives the Alonte busted play doesn't matter. I hate bagging on college kids but it is so blatantly obvious JG isn't the guy. I'm not on the fire Pruitt wagon. I dont think people realize how much JG hinders us. He's losing games, he's making us the laughing stock of college football, and he's going to start costing us recruits.
