If no boosters have offered to help with the buyout, which I doubt, it shouldn't be a big problem if Hart makes the right hire. The money brought in through increased ticket sales merchandise ect would more than likely cover it. It's payable over 36 months iirc.

In OCI I trust. Hope you're right man. I've been pulling for Dooley to do great things, but I think it's time to take the same big step Alabama did a few years ago. I really feel that our AD will go out and get the best coach money can buy

UT offered elite LB, Rashaan Evans. There is an article on ESPN about it. Can someone start him a thread.... I'm on mobile.

I got caught up in all the Gruden talk but I'm starting to believe that Dooley is back in 2013 & if he is fired then Kirby Smart is likely his replacement. JMO.

I would rather roll with Dooley another year than take a chance on Kirby Smart. Hart is a smart man...I just don't see him getting rid of Dooley, unless he has a proven head coach on the other line who is ready to take the job. I think Hart knows if he is going to replace Dooley, then he needs a hire that brings excitement and will unite this fanbase...Kirby Smart does not accomplish this IMO.

Agreed. I just know that we are not going to settle for anything less than the best this time. We get rid of Dooley, we have to bring in a huge name. I am willing to bet that money is NOT an issue on this one

Smart has always been the #2 option, which means he will probably end up the next coach.

I can't imagine what's going on in Hart's head.

I think Skeeter's right, Dooley's ticket is punched either way. Hart has to see a massive chunk of the fan base has absolutely checked out. Sure there are people, like most of us, that will keep showing up week after week...but an apathetic fan base is not what you want to be looking at when you are staring at a mountain of debt and tiny reserves.

I highly doubt a winning streak against a string of mainly weaker teams to wrap up the year would really get a lot of them back at this point. I don't know if that's fair or not...but I think that's the case.

He has to know he must ignite the fan base. I can't imagine Kirby Smart doing that.

All that said....piss on Carolina. Go Vols.

Great post Wally. I totally agree with you. The higher ups realize that ticket sales will plummet next year if Dooley is kept. And like you said, a guy like Smart will not create big time excitement in the program. I am a Dooley fan and always will be, but I'm afraid that his time is up. Time to hire our "Saban"

Money wasn't an issue on the last job search either. No one would touch the roster in 2010

I dont think that a lot of fans will check back in if Smart were to be hired.

Not really, he just has to hire a coach that will win. The rest will follow. We fans just want that type of hire.

I agree with that to a point. I think "we" (the types in this thread) would be willing to give just about anybody a shot, and winning would certainly cure all.

But I'm not sure if this is the kind of thing people will be willing to wait on. Let's say 2013's schedule is the meat grinder it appears to be and UT ends up with a mediocre record. I think if you hire on "potential", people will simply check out again.

I guess it all comes down to how stable UT feels they are financially.

I have to think the Alabama game made an impression on a lot of people over there. Bama was CLEARLY a program flush with cash and hordes of people lining up to throw them more. While I sat in Neyland, I got an odd sense UT was falling behind (more than just on-field...financials, brand, etc) and I'm wondering if some in the UTAD didn't get the same impression.

If Dooley is fired (still an "if" in my mind), then my money is on Kirby Smart taking the job. Of all the names, it just seems the most likely. And I don't think I'd mind that.

I will say that I am 100% certain we are not getting Gruden. I'd go so far as to say 110% certain.

I expect us to be reading a mea culpa thread on here sometime in the next month or two from OCI, SpringBokVol and others who double-down on the Gruden is the next UT coach meme. I don't doubt those guys believe their "sources," I just doubt their sources.

Dont be shocked if we get our doors blown off saturday. this team may surprise me and show up ready to play, but i doubt it. Hopefully a couple of the young guys will give us a boost on defense.

Don't doubt.

Don't doubt.

It's hard not to. Not saying you're not right. I've heard the same story from several people. It's just that we're almost conditioned at this point for disappointment. Is been awhile since anything positive happened to the football program.

Randy Shannon, Three Amigos, etc., etc., etc. This is not just directed at OCI but a lot of big rumors on this site have gone south and now the guys that beat the rumor drum say trust me. To all of you who think JG is a go, why not break down how your are coming to your conclusions.

Its really not such a stretch into I know I have been wrong the past but you can trust me in this time situation.

This. Gruden seems too good to be true.
