Would you trade the 98 natty to have kept Majors around, or at least go about replacing him a different way?
Majors didn't deserve to lose his job like he did. The man was 100% TENNESSEE. He was a living VOL legend and UT did him dirty. With that being said, I appreciate what Fulmer (with Chavis and Cutcliff) did in the late 90s but Majors built the program up for him and didn't/doesn't get enough credit for what he did for the University of Tennessee

Yeah, it was many, many, many years before my time. . . but. . . everything I've heard about it was a bad deal.

I agree, Johnny left Phil a heckuva foundation and Phil finished the job. Love and appreciate both, but Johnny was just my guy.

Reading up on the Adidas talks. I have a few quick thoughts.

1) 200 mill over 10 years is big money but this has potential to be much bigger over time... The Vols as the face of the Adidas collage sports market could be huge.

Marketing- The Vols are seen as renegades. We are the badasses who killed the NCAA and opened up all the streams for money to flow. The establishment hates us and blames us... you can't buy that level of cool.

Embrace the black uniforms. Other fan basses across the country say they look great. They fit our persona. They will market better than any in all of sports.

2) Recruiting should be ran as a separate department from coaching. Today's recruiting is Finance/Psychology based while coaching is mostly Strategy/Teaching. There is overlap but they are not the same. Each department head is responsible for their outcomes.

Not sure about this one. We tried adidas once. Didnt work. Kids like Nike.

Coaches matter. Position coaches matter. They are the key to recruiting. Not some sales guy masquerading as a recruiting guru

I'm pretty sure we're about the same age.

But... yeah, it was rotten. I didn't respect Fulmer after the whole thing with Majors. And when he hired Pruitt (the Anti-VOL), my disgust for Fulmer really kicked back up. I've got mixed feelings about Philip Fulmer

Johnny was great but from everything I’ve ever read from people who were there and in the know, he had some real serious issues, alienated the administration, nearly caused a mass walkout at halftime of the 1992 LSU game…he got the Vols back to respectability but I don’t buy that Fulmer was uniquely villainous in that whole thing.
