Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Majors didn't deserve to lose his job like he did. The man was 100% TENNESSEE. He was a living VOL legend and UT did him dirty. With that being said, I appreciate what Fulmer (with Chavis and Cutcliff) did in the late 90s but Majors built the program up for him and didn't/doesn't get enough credit for what he did for the University of Tennessee
I honestly dont think we did him THAT dirty, we went 3-0 with Fulmer, then when majors returned we went 2-0 and then a 3 game losing streak, pair that along with Majors getting older and in poor health at the time, I could kind of understand why It went down

I liked Johnny Majors but it was always "Happy Hour" somewhere...😆 But there isn't anything wrong with that..
Which led to some difficult relationships with some powerful people. I will leave it there, but witnessed some of it first hand.

I am grateful for both. They are Vol legends.

We didn't have DW last time we had Adidas.
Exactly what is being missed in this conversation IMO. 👍

The previous arrangement with Adidas did not have contractual provisions that will be required today. DW is in charge now.

Which do players want most today should Adidas not match Nike in quality of apparel/shoes - more money or more attractive unis? My guess is that money will win that debate nearly 100% of the time. DW will enforce the look and performance of the product.

Nike has their shot to match or exceed the package offered by Adidas.

Happy Thursday

May 22, 2025: You are embarking on a new phase of existence and experience, which will cause you to feel out-of-pocket from time to time. But, this is a season of mental and spiritual growth that will serve you well in the future and require your faith to be activated like never before. Never doubt God's presence in your life. Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Yeah, it was many, many, many years before my time. . . but. . . everything I've heard about it was a bad deal.
Johnny had alcohol issues and had become mean as hell. It was never what it seemed, especially on campus where he’d alienated everyone including players. Johnny blamed Fulmer but Fulmer was one of a handful that stood up for him.

Johnny Majors is the reason why I love the VOLS as much as I do.

*I'm still mad about how they did him 1992.

GO BIG ORANGE
I really do think that Majors FANS would double park the dually (back in) in the curbside pickup spot at Grocery Store, saying 'I put cart back,' after blowing air out of mouth, eyes rolled back, foot tapping, having to wait to have their 1 item scanned by a human, despite 8 empty self checkouts being open.

Truth be known, Fulmer was less personable with fans than Majors was. Could be wrong, but had the bigger ego, ergo more entitled. Which is in direct contradiction to Major's fans. 🤪 Probably root for Larry Bird, Adidas, and think Hulk Hogan the greatest wrestler of all time!

I'm lucky, she'll be attending a 2 year community college 25 minutes away for free to save money. That means I have her for two years.

There's that at least, sure that we'll help her make the decision for the next step on her education. There are a few options within a "reasonable" driving distance for her final two years.

She said she wants to teach at the unit school she attended. She's ready but nervous about leaving the high school and friends she loved.

How is the transition going for you? I know it can't be easy, been hard as hell on me and she's still here with us.
Your daughter sounds very normal level headed. I see it every year, leaving the routine and people you have spent the majority of your days with for the pas thirteen years can be scary. The transition for the parents is equally scary. I call the college years the "lost years." They may be present but they will be in the college parallel universe. You will see her in passing but your never on the same plane. It's almost like living with a poltergeist, you get a glimpse once and awhile and there's evidence that they have been around.
Mine left three years ago and it was very difficult, particularly for my wife. I was somewhat soothed by the abundance of food that was now in the house.
My son going into the Army was a really different experience. It is not like going to college. When they go to college you can still communicate with them. Going into the Army, it was like my son did not exist for six months, it was almost like he died.
My kids are both married now and doing well. Enjoy this time, there is great satisfaction watching the people you raised go and make their own way.
Train up a child in the way they should go, and when they are old they will not depart from it. -The Book

Fans loved Johnny because he was amazing with fans and on tv. I never understood the disconnect until I stumbled across a clip for one of his shows. The man could make Spurrier sound boring and had more style, panache and genuine wit/humor. But he also had a lifetime of tragedies buried inside that came out when his substance abuse progressed.

In a different era, Johnny gets rehabbed and might have made it back home again. But UT didn’t do Majors dirty. He did that to himself.

Not made with same ingredients. Ive owned two. Steel is different.

Loved my Outback. Was the perfect car, regardless of what anyone says, to raz or be judgemental. Loading a kayak, canoe, fishing gear, in the snow, rain, doesnt matter. Best car in elements, period. Safe.

Just wouldnt last:
When I a see a Subaru the first thing I think is, "Is that her's or is she borrowing her girlfriend's car?"
