The risk you run of bringing in a top flight QB1 is that Merk or GMac might say “see you later” and you definitely don’t want that, especially if that player has more than 1 year of eligibility. Also, guaranteed starter when you walk in the door has not been Heupel’s SOP, so I don’t think that’s what he will do now.

I think the coaches saw enough from the other QBs this Spring to feel confident and want a solid depth piece to go with them.

Therefore, I HOPE we get a big time QB1, but I don’t expect it.

Feels like insiders (JAllen, Callahan, VQ) are trying to set our expectations for a QB low (low level QB1, underclassman QB2 with potential). I hope it's just a ruse to prevent anyone from accusing us explicitly of tampering, but I'm not optimistic. The Spring Portal is a terrible time to find truly gamechanging players, expecially at QB where teams lock up their 1s and 2s before New Years.

I think Big Nick ridiculously started with what they were asking of Tennessee. But even Nico's current 2.3 was likely too much for TU. Maybe they would have come up with a million or a hair over. Their starter is suspended, so they are in a vulnerable position. But the door is shut now.

If it came out this was all papa Nics doing, that Nico never threatened to sit out, and he fired his dad and agents, made a private and public apology to his teammates/coaches/administration/boosters/fans, was willing to play for the same amount of money he was already being paid or less, signed an nda in relation to any internal contract/compensation/leadership conversations he had previously while here, promised his teammates to put them first, and gave up social media for the remainder of his time here, would you allow the team to vote on taking him back?
