Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It's interesting that none of these coaches speaking out now ever say anything about Nick Saban doing his utmost to strike a "transactional" deal with Nico. Saban was bragging at the time that his quarterback made more than $2 million a year, iirc. I still suspect that Saban was behind the investigation. He was still after Nico. It's reprhensible that he gets away with his "I told you so" bit.

There were 3 fence jumps that were impressive! Mail carriers with athletic ability.
I had an "Olympic" moment similar to that one time. I worked at the telephone company for several years. I got ran back to my van multiple times but the worst was when the customer accidentally let the dog slide by him as soon as I got on their porch. I'd been there before and knew the guy was weak and sickly, but he was very nice and wouldn't intentionally let the dog out on anyone. I also knew that dog would eat my face off if it ever got loose. Welp, I could hear the dog's paws coming across their hardwood floors and they were were getting faster. As soon as that door opened, I jumped down 5 steps, took off in a sprint, and had to clear 30 yards to get to my service van. Luckily my windows were down. I dove through the passenger window (head 1st), monkey flipped to an upright position, and was cranking the window up (it was manually operated, Thank GOD), in less than a second. The dog was trying to jump through the window as I was rolling it up. I threw a "sorry we missed you, please reschedule" tag out the window and left.

Nico is going to have to drop his price to 500k-1.5M to get his true list of suitors. The types of teams he originally wanted will have renewed interest.

His offers will range from 100-500k to ride the bench as a backup at a good program, with the option for 2-4M in the future.

To 1M-1.5M on a meh team

No doubt his dad will spin it as the best thing that ever happened for him.

He's going to live with scars from this one for life. He needs a pr team at this point. Do a sympathetic interview. It's in our best interest he land somewhere and this gets buried.

I maintain his best course of action would have been to go to UNC for a song. Their schedule is friendly and Bill still has connections and respect in the NFL. He could rehab Nico's image on and off the field, and restore Nico's (and family's) long term options and goals. However, his father will have to swallow his massive pride. If they can admit they lost this particular engagement, they can still restore an opportunity to succeed in the long run.

We agreed. My only debate with you is could they mutually agree to that and seems like the answer was no initially.

his dad now has it in his head that he will be "good businessman" if they get a dollar over 2.4M and "bad businessman" if anything under

he is so shortsighted it's insane
Greedy people that just chase money tend to spend everything as quickly as it comes in. It’s not out of the question that they have spent the money and owe enormous amounts in taxes. Happens all the time with people that have no idea how to manage new found wealth. No idea what is reality but they could be in position they need every dime they can get. Taxes alone on what he made last year would be north of $700k. You hear stories like this about athletes every year. Hopefully that’s not their situation but who knows.

I think it's in our best interest that no one directly involved say anything. I would imagine that point has been established. A new "shiny object" for the sports media will come along soon enough.
