We may not beat bama or make the playoffs, but unless Nico really improved this year, he just isn't that great. He has shown flashes of being great, but how many easy passes did he miss or not seeing WRs running wide open? Who is to say the other highly ranked QBs can't play as good or better?

I don't know who this guy is. I'm going to assume he's nobody.

But I do think it's interesting.

The sport is decimated. They could revive it, but it is ruined in its current state. Some will disagree, but I don't find that argument interesting.

The argument I do find interesting is how long a dead sport can run on its old momentum. And pictures like that make me think it isn't very long. Millions of dollars in Nico merchandise... Carson Beck merchandise... Then boom. Waste of money.

So many people feel like they are getting screwed. Fans feel like they are getting screwed because players just go play for rivals, and even if they don't, they end up looking greedy. Meanwhile boosters are pouring in more money than ever, but unable to actually build anything because the guys they paid last year are now undercutting their investment this year.

I think with no spending restrictions and pay-to-play contracts very soon, the money will dry up fast. I would imagine the current group of athletes is getting paid more than anyone else will who follow them.

Gotta admit I’m shocked how united the fanbase and media are on this. Haven’t seen a single person say UT should give in.

I think everyone including myself was expecting more from Nico last year and don’t see it as a huge loss like we would have a couple years ago

I told y'all this was all too public. And imo we can blame fans all we want, but there are people making and kids receiving a hell of a lot of money for this never to hit the street. Somebody should be fired over this handling.

I say they fire Nico. No way you can let him be the leader of the team if half the story is true. His play last year was also nothing special.

It sucks that we didn’t get Merk more reps, but oh well, I personally don’t think we were hitting 10 wins this season anyways.

I’m not gonna support giving more money to a kid that gave us JG like results in a much more dynamic offense. Sampson and defense was the reason we played so well last year.

Let the kid leave. Get Merk ready for game 1. Take all the Nil this kid tied us for and give it to some portal guys.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to think Merk might be better. Nico was mid pack last year.

Nico had two huge plays that set up both of those Sampson TD’s.

And No we haven’t seen Merk do anything on that level. One was a huge pass to Thorton and the other was a terrific scramble by Nico.

Buddy…Sampson had a 35 yard run, then Nico had a 20 yard run, THEN there was a pass interference penalty, THEN Sampson scored

Nico did not set up anything.

And yes, Merk can run 25 ****ing yards.

You can see it however you want, this is completely on Nico and his family. We paid handsomely to secure his services yet they wanted even more and it backfired. He just isnt worth that kinda money at this point. They agreed to a deal and want more now, when Nico was missing wide open receivers last year Tennessee wasn't sitting there thinking, hmm maybe we should renegotiate this deal and pay him less he can't hit a deep ball to save his life.

So you think if we had a WR room full of weapons right now, an elite Oline, and a full RB stable that this would still be going down? Chris Lowe hinted the same thing I brought up, but what does he know right?

CJH spent his time and resources building the roster the way he wanted it and the roster that gives him the best chance to win. If he thought WR was a bigger priority, he would have addressed it. He has to build a team they way he wants it, not what Nico wants. He has 84 other players to worry about and other holes needing to be filled. He can't cater every thing he does off what Nico wants.

So by your statement, we should be heading to the playoffs again this season, no excuses, right? CJH can't have it both ways... you're saying he built the team he wants, so it better perform, get to the playoffs, and win a championship because that's what he preaches, so if it doesn't happen with the team you say he is building to do so and win, then it's on him... again, can't keep making excuses and have it both ways... guess we'll see.

It’s beyond this..Chris low said it best “you can’t” because of what it will say to the other players around him chasing after the same bag…everyone else will follow if TN gives in and honestly if I’m JH knowing the work it’s taken to get here from the day he was hired…i wouldn’t,this would easily become the most toxic locker room we’ve ever seen and we’re so close to breaking through the mold of greatness after 20 years of the lowest of lows..it’s not worth it and if I’m hendon hooker I’m pissed because his years of playing here is why we’re in this position his class kick started our upward trend.just a huge set back overall if the university gives in.

Read my other post, we can't cater a team around what Nico wants. Also, money doesn't grow on trees. A WR room full of weapons, an elite oline, and a full stable of stud RB's is delusional. Everyone is getting paid and that's just unrealistic.

Because the fanbase is getting tired of NIL, and the athletes continuing to want more, more, more, or else they hit the portal to next highest bidder. They are ruining the product at warp speed, and then they won’t be making anything, because no one is interested anymore.
