Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Didn’t say it did excuse it. Can’t excuse this tactic. But I know there’s gonna be some acting like losing Nico isn’t a big deal. It is. And it sucks if it happens.
You were discussing with a guy who said that Nico wasn't the reason why this team reached their ceiling last year. Which is true. It was a TEAM effort. In regards to the Bama game, our defense gave him chance after chance after chance to take over the game until he finally did. And yea it sucks to lose Nico. But it sucks even more to have an above average QB's dad calling the shots and holding the team hostage. If we give in, it sends a message that one player is more important than the rest of the team. And that's an absolute recipe for disaster in the locker room. The kid wants to get paid that much? Let him get paid and allow his family to tank his draft stock somewhere else because this team means too much to too many people to bend at the knee to a guy who didn't score a point in the first half during the month of October.

LOL... this has plenty to do with CJH and DW... he and ole Danny don't get a pass, they are very much to blame for this... I can guarantee you that if they had done what was expected by the fans, team, etc, and forked over the money to reload the WR room with elite talent that was certainly in the portal for the taking, however uncomfortable, his Dad would not have shopped his son around knowing the weapons/offense his son would play with would continue to be elite and would be competing for a championship again... Don't fool yourself. They took a financial gamble and it's blowing up in their face.
Your takes once again...yet consistent but always horrible.

Yeah football is a team game. But there’s games last year we don’t win without Nico. No Nico didn’t meet the unworldly expectations of winning a heisman as a freshman but he also at times played well despite pieces around him playing terrible. No his play didn’t demand such a drastic raise and I think any school looking to meet that price is flat out desperate. It’s just a bummer because Nico could be an extremely special talent if he just focused on ball. It’s just a sad situation all around.

Most Tennessee fans treated Nico like royalty even before he stepped on campus, the school tried taking down the NCAA to stand up for him. This is the thanks they get. Really shows the true colors.
These moves were made for Tennessee's advantage as much or moreso than for Nico's. The Vols took a calculated risk to challenge the prevailing paradigm. Of course the fans signed on.

Whelp, I named my only male goat born last year Nico........... Looking like I have to change it........ Any suggestions?

Chris Lowe echoing my thoughts…I think this also has to do with the receiving corps which as of now we haven’t upgraded. Money probably the #1 thing but there are other factors as well.
CJH spent his time and resources building the roster the way he wanted it and the roster that gives him the best chance to win. If he thought WR was a bigger priority, he would have addressed it. He has to build a team they way he wants it, not what Nico wants. He has 84 other players to worry about and other holes needing to be filled. He can't cater every thing he does off what Nico wants.

The situation is escalating

I don't know who this guy is. I'm going to assume he's nobody.

But I do think it's interesting.

The sport is decimated. They could revive it, but it is ruined in its current state. Some will disagree, but I don't find that argument interesting.

The argument I do find interesting is how long a dead sport can run on its old momentum. And pictures like that make me think it isn't very long. Millions of dollars in Nico merchandise... Carson Beck merchandise... Then boom. Waste of money.

So many people feel like they are getting screwed. Fans feel like they are getting screwed because players just go play for rivals, and even if they don't, they end up looking greedy. Meanwhile boosters are pouring in more money than ever, but unable to actually build anything because the guys they paid last year are now undercutting their investment this year.

I think with no spending restrictions and pay-to-play contracts very soon, the money will dry up fast. I would imagine the current group of athletes is getting paid more than anyone else will who follow them.

What’s expected is to win. That’s what he’s been doing.

All these other things are just your feelings.

Maybe if dude didn't ask for so much money, they could fill those holes?

False. Score was 24-17. Nico had 1 TD and 1 INT. Take Nico away and the score is 17-17.

Merk can do that…

Sampson had 2 TDs
Nico had two huge plays that set up both of those Sampson TD’s.

And No we haven’t seen Merk do anything on that level. One was a huge pass to Thorton and the other was a terrific scramble by Nico.

Yup sucks that he's surrounded by people trying to get a bigger piece of the pie.

You can see it however you want, this is completely on Nico and his family. We paid handsomely to secure his services yet they wanted even more and it backfired. He just isnt worth that kinda money at this point. They agreed to a deal and want more now, when Nico was missing wide open receivers last year Tennessee wasn't sitting there thinking, hmm maybe we should renegotiate this deal and pay him less he can't hit a deep ball to save his life.

Oof….another good post 🤌🏽
