Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I see that Milton is 5/17 tonight.....oof.

Is he really playing that bad? Or are his back-up receivers not helping?
He has put the ball on receivers a few times but they look like they're trying to catch a fish launched from a potato gun. Set up a couple good plays. Overthrew an open deep route, overthrew a should've been TD later. He was moving the ball and hitting guys to make plays but the RBs in particular looked like they had no idea how to catch his passes

As much as I love the nomination, this Forum (and thread) is beneath me.

No further questions.

You post in the zone. Nothing is beneath you.

VolNation pick contests are posted.

I remember when NC State at the GA Dome was supposed to be a tough game. We smoked them and were a 5-7 team.

IMO it will be a bad sign if we don’t win this game handily.
Why?...I see NC State as a team like Pitt in 21-22..

It would be a sign that we aren't giving to rip through the schedule...I guess you could call that bad if you expect to bulldoze everybody not named UGA or Bama...

I expect we will have several struggles this year..and I think we will be a good team.

I will support whoever the forum chooses for game day thread author and in that vein I offer the future office holder my notes on the first game, for what they’re worth. jmo.

Tidbits on Chattanooga –

Their QB is in his second year as the starter. He previously was a walkon at UCLA and ran Chip Kelly’s scout team for 3 years before landing in the Scenic City. He was chosen second team all-conference by the SoCon coaches for this year. Key thing to know is he seems to like to throw interceptions, not that there’s anything wrong with that. jmo.

Chattanooga beat Austin Peay in the first round of the playoffs last year and they have a good bit of returning production, especially on offense, for this year. They have a total of 10 players on the coaches preseason all-conference 2-deep, 6 on offense (2 WR, 2 OL, 1 QB, 1 TE) and 4 on defense (2 DL, 2 DB).

Peay’s coach from last year left after that game with the Mocs and took a bunch of staff and players (11) with him to UTEP who we will host late in this season.

Rusty Wright, the Mockingbird’s head coach, in 5 years at UTC has never had a losing season. While most know they’re the pick to win the SoCon this year and are ranked #8 in the FCS preseason poll, Jeff Sagarin, who ranks FBS & FCS teams together, has the Mocs ranked ahead of both UTEP and Kent State. UTC is at #131; we’re at #16. With Sagarin’s model we’re a 37 point favorite at home.

The Mocs lost their DC to Clemson’s support staff and while they have a new DC this year, it’s still Rusty’s defense as his background is on that side of the ball. jmo.

I listened to post fall camp extended interviews with both coordinators and a 30 min interview with Rusty. One thing Rusty pointed out I noted was in times past schools like his would often get players from D1 transferring down to FCS to avoid the lost year of eligibility but with the new portal rules they no longer get players like that. Of course they also have a 63 man limit for scholarships.

After soberly comparing our team to their team I came to the confident conclusion that we should go through those guys like crap through a goose. jmo.
Sounds like an excellent game thread!
Thank you kindly sir! Gentleman and a scholar you rightly are.

Disaster averted. 😇
