Neither one impressed me. Elijah regressed as the season went on, that’s on coaching. Caleb didn’t show promise like Pearce or even Josephs…
He was relied upon more as the season went on and the talent level of our comp increased as the season went on.

And Caleb has shown every promise that those two have, according to the coaches. The only difference is he has more people ahead of him that are dominating the playing time.

In 2022 Tennessee graded out at #102 in the country in coverage (PFF), and that went up to #35 this year with Corey Robinson on staff (with most of that damage coming from Herring in coverage). If you just look at DBs they're top 25.

Raymond's units:

2018 LSU: #10
2019 LSU: #23
2020 LSU: #51
2021 LSU: #57
2022 Florida: #87
2023 Florida: #113

Yikes, talk about trending down... 📉

Something else to learn, sometimes the nay-sayers are right. There are always people who see the problem first. Not saying I'm right. Hoping I'm wrong. All I want is what's best for the program, and I think we could do better. Not gonna sit here and argue though when I know opinions will not be changed, neither mine nor yours.
or they see problems in everything… claim they were right all along when it turns out negative.

You didn't actually quantify a problem, so I'm not sure what you are nay-saying. You suggested that hiring from within was a problem, but he wasn't really hired from within. He was proactively hired early for a position they knew was going to be open. Whether he is any good we'll see, but that sounds pretty smart to me.

Oh I thought you were someone who has blamed WM for the pass D here at some point
Correct because our corners play terrible technique.
We arent handsy, we dont press, we are reactive instead of proactive, we dont get our heads turned around, in zone we drop to a spot instead of covering our area and attaching to a man if he is in it. There are a ton of problems with Willie's coaching.

So pass D here is on WM but pass D while Raymond has coached DBs isn’t on Raymond.

Do I have that right?

The UA System has a policy that stipulates those who have “been dismissed for cause…shall not be eligible for re-employment” within the system. The policy was originally passed on May 23, 2013, with a revised version being adopted on Nov. 22, 2019.

"Despite the policy being adopted about a year after Petrino’s firing, Best of Arkansas Sports confirmed with the UA’s Office of General Counsel that it’d still apply to him — contrary to what some fans have posted on social media. However, the policy does leave open the possibility of an exception, but it would require the approval of the UA System President, Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt."

So our usual recliner experts trashing a guy who may or may not be the next DB coach. Typical. What is his coaching style? How does he teach various techniques? What are his work habits like? Is he knowledgeable enough to help with scheme adjustments? I don't know. You don't know either.
Apparently he is a WM clone who will be the downfall of Heupel.

Assuming he's actually the hire.

And not personally responsible for Hadden playing very well this year.

Biggest question is: do we have the $ to bring in good DBs? If no, you can put whoever you want there, it won't make a difference.

I don’t want to do that.

Why don’t you explain the difference in blame for passing defense between the 2 DB coaches.
Willie teaches bad technique

Raymond teaches good technique

This is eviden as Raymond has guys drafted in the top 3 rounds of the draft, while Willie has guys go undrafted then finally develop while they are in the league.

Go watch UGA, Bama, OSU, even a school like Wisconsin they all teach their DB's to be aggressive and handsy like you see in the NFL.
Then go watch Willie his guys are hands off reactive and soft in coverage.
