Recruiting Discussion

No twist

Until you learn recruiting isn't judged on paper you are going to continue to look foolish in saying that our recruiting hasn't been good enough.

Maybe one day I'll understand recruiting and not look so foolish.

We should make the elite 8 if given a good bracket draw next year . Also depends on who else we get in 18’ class .

Ehh, anyone else we get in '18 class will likely not be a heavy contributor next season unless it is a difference-making grad transfer, which as of now, does not appear to be the case.

I’m not sure what Burns could bring...best case scenario he’s our best post player behind Williams and Alexander, this would warrant 20mpg and he could contribute 10ppg 7rpg. Worst case he’s not ready to contribute and he takes a redshirt year, I am intrigued what he would bring.

I don't know what events he attended. Would love for you to post every event and how long he was there and how many days he attended. Do the rest for all staff members. And do this for every year.

Thanks.

Well per RL Tennessee full staff was out every single open evaluation day for AAU ball.

You’re welcome.

Look at when Tennessee offered Kira Lewis, Josiah James, DJ Burns, Tre Mann, Isaiah Stewart, Jason Jitoboh, Marcus Watson etc...the bulk of the guys we are in deep with are guys we’ve been recruiting for 2+ years. Barnes has been here 3 years, so yes you are starting to see “the fruits of their labor” now on the trail. People are saying this is some surprise development, this is the exact thing many people were saying the plan was...build the foundation and produce a winning program with 4-5 year type guys, ID younger recruits and start to build those relationships with them. That is exactly what occurred, foundation was built 2015/2016 classes, the wins came in the form of a 3 seed in NCAAT, and timing coincides with 2019 class which the staff has a long standing relationship in place with many of those guys now.

Look at 2020:

Norrance Berry: Vols offer October of 2017
Jaden Springer: Vols offer September of 2017
Keon Johnson: Vols offer April of 2018
Justice Ajogbor: Vols offer September of 2017

So following that same timeframe, offers to 2016 class would’ve been fall of 2013, 2017 class fall of 2014 and 2018 class fall of 2015. Barnes was hired in spring 2015, so I don’t think it’s a big surprise that starting in 2018 offers started to look a bit different...and given the shortage of scholarships available for 2018 it makes a lot of sense why 2019 is the class many are pointing to as different, yet many people were saying through those first couple years that was the plan.

People have said lots of things were the plan. It changes constantly. Whatever happens was the plan all along.

I am intrigued too. I just don't see his presence determining our fate next season. He would have to be REALLY good to make that kind of impact. He just doesn't seem to be that kind of player, especially coming out a year early. Looks like he needs to refine his body, to me. Doesn't appear very cut or muscular. He does have nice footwork for a guy his size. Just doesn't look that strong, which is expected from a HS JR.
