Recruiting Discussion

Kids aren't committing very often at all on visits anyway but they dang sure aren't without pressure.

Bruin - you're bending over backwards here to avoid the truth.

It doesn't have to be on the actual visit.

I'm not gonna continue to try and convince you. Like I said, Bleed agreeing with me is enough for me to know I'm not off base on this one.

When you bring a kid in on an OV the goal of the staff should be to have that kid leave town committed or thinking that he doesn't need to take any more visits.

We are talking about OV's here. In many cases the recruitment has been over the course of months if not years.

By the time they take an OV we should be thinking "lock it down" and not "ok son, go ahead and visits some more schools while we wait."

I agree with that but this new early OV thing changes the timing of all that.

I wonder how many times Mann has been on campus to Tenn and Florida before and how much face to face he has had with both coaches. If it's minimal that's telling.

Also the kids we "struggle" with in the past never visited the schools before.

i.e. Pons-Texas tech
Walker -georgia and St. John's
Darrington- memphis
Daniel- Ohio state and Mich

So your post doesn't apply to them

Not at all. If it gets done it gets closed.

How many lower ranked guys have we missed on?

It ain't many so we ain't struggling.

Bowden was a hometown guy. Easily understandable why he was easier than most. I expected Fulkerson to be the same way but we know he wasn't

I don’t have a list of everyone that has OV’d, would be curious how it compares to other schools in terms of OV’s/signees. For 2018 we brought in Petrusev, Simons, Fore and Burns...0/2 so far of that group, but 2/4 still on the table.

I think we should be bringing in more on OVs.

I don't care who agrees with you. I know it might shock you but bto and I have disagreed plenty

I was wondering similar earlier...if you are going to take the approach of not being a “used car salesman” and being honest with guys you aren’t going to bat 100%. I wouldn’t be waiting around very long on Mann to schedule OV’s for say Tandy and Kira Lewis, I would be getting something on the books...with that said there may be and we just don’t know it.

As I have said many times. I agree we are struggling to close if we are pressuring these kids to commit on visits.

I just believe what the man has said

We are struggling either way. If it’s by choice it’s even more inexcusable.

The pressure talk is just your own wrinkle you’re throwing in there.

There is a big difference between over pressuring and trying to get a commitment from a kid.

Do you think Barnes wants players to go on other OVs where they will almost always be pressured by other schools to make a commitment?

Seems like a strategy to always have the disadvantage.

Yes I think that because he has said it

And we made him our only target that we were content to wait on and we still don’t have a commit.

I agree that's a loss and criticism needs to be given there. However if it Meant getting harris there is likely a reason we didn't go that direction

I don’t have much issue with how 2018 played out...1 scholarship and we wanted a blue chip type, targeted Petrusev and missed, tried Simons and missed. Staff could’ve targeted a kid ranked 175 and probably pulled him in the fall and been done, but people wouldn’t have been happy about that either. Wanted to land a difference maker and couldn’t, I give them credit for trying, having the grad transfer option there allows that.
